Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I'm battling this at the moment and I cannot manage to jag a HBA agent. I'm trying to add Qantaslink regional connections to the start and end of my booked international CR intinerary. The o/s agents I've spoken to quote one of:
1. there are no awards available on these flights (there are)
2. there are no flights on this route (there are)
3. there are awards but they're only available on new bookings.
Two different things here.

Adding domestic connections in australia has been blocked since 2021/22. You cannot search MEL-SYD and SYD-LAX separately and create a single trip. The only way you can do it is search MEL-LAX, and if it offers you via SYD, you’re good to go.

That’s different from adding sectors outside australia, for example adding HKG-SIN into an existing award. Some agents say they can only book it as a new booking, because they don’t know how to search for the availability within the existing PNR.

The block on adding domestic sectors is impossible to get around unless you get Hobart or Auckland.

The block works quite well. If the agent searches MEL-SYD, then the flight SYD-LAX doesn’t show in their system. If they book the SYD-LAX first, then the MEL-SYD doesn’t show!

Booked a OWA online using the Qantas multi-city page a few days ago for Miss 18's cousin to accompany her

MEL-NRT (JL)
NRT-ITM (JL)
HND-HEL (JL)
HEL-VIE (AY)
VIE-HEL (AY)
HEL-ICN (AY)
GMP-HND (JL)
NRT-MEL (JL)

$1131.70 in taxes plus 132,40 points.

Incredibly, ticketing took only 20 minutes, which feels like a world record to me.
 
Hi all,

I have a question about interpreting one of the fare rules:
"You must include at least two other oneworld airlines besides Qantas, and not include any non-oneworld airlines."

Does this mean you HAVE to include Qantas in your itinerary, or not necessarily and it is valid to have an itinerary without any Qantas flights?

FYI we have booked our OWA itinerary successfully and it includes a final leg with Qantas from Singapore to Melbourne. But the final flights are just dummy bookings for now because it was too far out to see flight availability for when we are planning to return home. So the question is about whether we will need to find a replacement Qantas reward seat to get home once the calendar opens up, or whether we could swap that last Qantas flight out for another one world airline if there was a better option available.

If the start of my OWA is SYD > HKG (CX) HKG > HEL > FCO (AY) all on the same day, but want to change my premium economy cathay leg to a business MEL > HKG leg, is this going to be a simple 5,000 points per passenger change or do I risk losing everything as the other legs go back into the reward seat pool temporarily?

At the risk of sounding like a negative nancy, if you make any change at any time to your qantas OWA there is a risk you will lose everything because QF agents are intentionally undertrained and therefore likely to make a mistake that nukes everything. Then again, reward ticketing escalations may or may not be able to help you and there dont seem to be as many complaints posted recently compared to before, so YMMV.

Even If everything works the way it does work, it is unlikely that it will be a 5k change. Because your highest class of travel is now J intead of premium Y, the price will recalculate to use the lower of individual segments added together vs 318k cap for J, and the agent may need more than 5k points to make up the difference.

KUL- SIN (MH) - HND (JL) Stop 1
HND - SYD (QF) Stop 2
SYD - BKK (QF) Stop 3
BKK - (SYD/HKG -QF/CX) - MEL (QF/CX) Stop 4
MEL - HKG (QF/CX) - LHR (CX) Stop 5
HEL - SIN (AY) END.

Couple of flexible time / WP requests on QF needed hence not certain on exact routing back from BKK and going fro MEL - HKG.
 
Would anyone happen to have an example of a few status credits earnt (or some good paths) as a result of flying with awards as a PC/PC+ member?
Run around domestically a lot? You could in theory go from PER to SIN via MEL, BNE, DRW all in one leg for example.

I've booked 2 OWA's for next year and phoned through 3 times to add additional flights across those bookings. Have received my e-Ticket within 30 minutes every time. I did have to HUACA a few times as some operators had no idea when making these changes. Not sure if I have just been lucky but it does appear that Qantas have improved something in their backend processing. Not once did I manage to talk to Hobart so it seems that the standard across the other call centres is perhaps improving. Certainly takes a lot of the stress away not having to worry about losing a previously confirmed flight.

The routing looks fine to me. Depending on the actual route you get though, it barely hits 36k miles on GCM. So you may have issues.

e.g. if you do BKK-HKG-MEL, it’s 36,291 miles on GCM.

Oh thanks i knee something didn't look quite right this time vs when i first looked into this trip.

Had GCM on nautical miles instead of miles. (For nm it comes out to 31k 😂)
