Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Do I still have room for more stop overs or surface segments?
As long as you keep within the rules, including within 35.000 miles, 16 segments, up to 5 stops (the final city does not count as a stop), etc, etc:

Only 6 weeks to go to start Qantas Classic RTW business
MEL-HKG (QF)
HKG-HEL-AMS (AY)
AMS-HEL-DUB (AY)
MXP-MAD (IB)
MAD-HGK-PER (CX)
PER-MEL (QF)
My question is what business lounges may we access in HKG, AMS, HEL, MXP, MAD and 2nd visit to HGK?

The Oneworld page for lounge access is a lot better than it once was. If you have status or other programs from credit cards, etc then there is obviously more choice.
In any case - enjoy!

Thank you I did not realize that as it is a Qantas ticket and not a Oneworld ticket would we still get access to Oneworld lounges?

Qantas is a founding member of Oneworld, and all of the airlines you are travelling on are members also.

Just made a (relatively) simple change to an existing OWA. I agree with the more recent comments upthread that South Africa agents have been better equipped with making changes without any problems.

Unfortunately they still struggled to immediately re-ticket the itinerary. All of them acknowledged the need to immediately re-ticket (there are a few MH flights on the itinerary), which is better than a year ago when they couldn't understand why.

I had to go through 5 agents until I got someone who could get through to Hobart for immediate re-ticketing. According to the other agents, they tried and couldn't get through via the phone to ticketing, which I translated to "we don't want to wait for them to pick up". To be fair, I waited around 10 mins on average for my calls to be answered each time, so perhaps the lines were really busy.

I have had experiences similar to the one you described. Strange thing from my end though, I ha e called to make two changes

1st time - I got through to Hobart (!!!!) As a QF bronze (!!!!!1!1one!eleven!!)

2nd time - the automated message said something along the lines of " as a platinum member, you receive preferential treatment on our premium support line" and "please wait for our next platinum team member" or something such. 85% sure it was Manila call centre though based on accent.

Wondering if QF realises you are calling about a complex itinerary or if your ticket had a strange point of departure, they route you to different agents?

I don't know if it's still the case, but a year or so ago you were asked to input the PNR before reaching an agent, supposedly to route complex bookings to 'more experienced' operators.

I go through the website first and put in my PNR, it then gives me a code and a number to call
For me I just go straight to the call centre.

I think this may be partially true if you enter your PNR, but I would have thought that I'd get routed to Hobart or Auckland for a complex itinerary (granted, anecdotally, I haven't gotten Manila in a really long while when calling for a OWA).

No such thing as a "Oneworld" ticket. Oneworld is a loose marketing alliance of airlines. Some of these airlines cooperate closely and others compete head to head.
All the member airlines have ff status levels which equate to named OW status level. Each status level has cross airline benifits. Only a few lounges are operated by OW. Most are airline operated lounges or 3rd party for an airline (~contracted lounges).
Only the airlines issue the tickets:- not Oneworld alliance.

I want to make a multi-city flight for 2 adults and the website is useless as usual, complete with timeout errors etc.

Can I make separate bookings, then get them to reissue all legs on the same ticket by phone?

Not possible from my understanding. If there are website issues, is there any reason why you can’t phone the Call Centre now, and book the lot, assuming availability for the flights that you want?

Oh, dang.

Perhaps I can only phone in the morning and hope to God the flights remain for now... Or book them on separate bookings and hope there won't be any need to use travel insurance!

Just an update on my previous post questions - I've booked an OWA in (mostly) business class and had ticketed the following:

17 Aug '25
SYD-LAX: QF11 - Stopover 1. As Plat FF, requested 2 bus. class seats released - success.
Booking AA separately LAX-LAS, then LAS-JFK, and back to LAX

14 Sept '25
LAX-PDX: AA6424 - Stopover 2.
Booking separate travel for Canadian road trip.

5 Oct '25
PDX-LAX: AA4891 - Transit
LAX-HND. AA27 - Stopover 3.
Unfortunately, as elanshin previously advised, no Bus. Class - booked in Econ.
I've set EF alerts for award availability if it comes up but not hopeful.

12 Oct '25
KIX-BKK: JL727 - Stopover 4.
Will book own flights BKK-SYD and be home for Christmas,
then SYD-BKK to resume OWA.

Have booked following dummy dates to hold ticket but will change to April and June as soon as award flights become available:

28 Oct '25
BKK-HEL: AY142 - Transit
HEL-LHR: AY 1339. Stopover 5
Aiming to spend April, May, June in UK/Europe - new grandson there!

4 Nov '35'
LHR-SIN: QF2 - Transit
SIN-SYD: QF2 - Finish. Note this only avail. econ but will be rebooked.
I might get lucky and get them to release 2 more bus. seats....

Comes in at 34,383 miles. Total cost for husband and I - $AUD2,166.56. Hobart agent exceptionally good - spent 1.5 hrs on the phone and ticketed within 25 minutes.

After more reading here, am I correct in thinking that if I route back home through HEL with AY (LHR-HEL-SIN-SYD), I would reduce the taxes/fees out of LHR given shorter distance to HEL? And if it did, would Qantas refund the difference or not bother as I've already paid? Would it even be worth it? Given lack of award availabiliy, might have better luck getting AY flights in business anyway.

Would appreciate thoughts from more experienced minds?
