So is anyone going to test this?

I'm thinking about it ... $500 gift card redeemable at a some places that I buy things from:

"participating Woolworths and Safeway Supermarkets, CALTEX WOOLWORTHS and CALTEX SAFEWAY co-branded outlets, HomeShop, BIG W, **** Smith Electronics, **** Smith PowerHouse, Tandy, Woolworths Liquor, BWS, or Dan Murphy's"

Amex should just be using the DSE Merchant account as the bonus indicator, with no way of distinguishing individual purchases for the bonus points.

The $500 Wish cards are currently selling for around $450 on ebay. Do you value 5500-5750 MR points at more than $50?

Also, there is the chance of loss or theft, and I believe a 12 month expiry.

I think your calculation is not quite right. I would value 50,000 MR points at around $1000 possibly more!

The value of 5,000 MR points is somewhat debatable but transferring to PC at 1,000:600 would get you more than $50 value....

Oops, yep another 0 crept into it... will fix it!

To me the card equates to about a 15% discount.........as I value points at about 1.5cents each (long haul economy....RTW might boost that to 2-ish cents each)

OK, have just purchased a $500 Wish Card from DSE - after opting in for the promotion last week. Points usually post in a couple of days, so will monitor my Amex account and report back...

In the meantime though, will just use the Wish Card now for my regular purchasing at relevant stores...

Wouldnt that be a 1.5% discount rather than 15%?

Assuming he values them at 1.5c/point:

$1 * 10 points/$ * $0.015/point = $0.15

15% discount.

Exactly.....

For example I recently redeemed 5 tickets return to Noumea for 180,000 points and the cheapest I could buy at that time would have been $2800 (plus taxes on both points and cash = the same)

If I wanted to be fussy you could say it is abit higher as there is the 10 bonus points on top of the "normal" 1.5 points.

i have also bought $500 worth of Wish gift cards at lunch time, so i'll also let you know if the 10x promotion is valid for gift cards.... my logic says everything will be just fine.

Yes same here.

I bought $500 card at DSE......and noted that they had pre-paid phone credit there as well..so bought my daugter $50 of credit at the same time....plus $10 software purchase.

They all went through together and so all looks good.

The phone one is handy too...if it posts ok I will by some more credit for my daughter just prior to Dec 31....which makes that pain less painful;)

The Good Guys wasa nearby so popped in there. Noticed a few Maximiser Crads being used!!!! TGG list their prices with about 5% off for cash...so the value of the bonus points will be negated a bit.

I am testing this promotion through Tandys so hope the bonus points appear by the end of this week.

So if all goes well, DSE and Tandys both get the nod for this promotions.

good morning everyone,

thought i'd update you and confirm that Amex has posted the bonus points on my account ;)

less than a 24hr turnaround is fantastic!

Confirming that my DSE purchase has posted as well. $500 gift card = 5750 points :)

Perhaps this thread should be closed and deleted to restrict prying eyes...

Mentioned this to mrssimongr this morning - don't think in the morning rush that it fully sunk in. Just wondering if I can pursuade her that we should prepay $5000 of Woolies and Dan Murphy's expenses...

I had been thinking of getting a new fridge and front loader washer for a while......so now might be the time....plus a few gift cards etc.....

Prices are normally good after boxing day anyway...and with an effective extra 15% + off now even better...

Could be a quick 50,000 to 100,000 points...

I had been thinking of getting two RTW redemptions and this will speed things up nicely.

thanks for the info everyone. I'm keen on buying some vouchers too.

Can anyone who has received the bonus points confirm if they used a Qantas Amex (instead of the rewards maximiser one). I wanted to make sure this was eligible.
