Opt out of CSM greeting??

It's extremely rare for me to get a greeting. Never on 6am flights. Sometimes, read half a dozen times in the last 100 flights, on evening flights. Maybe 75% of the time on weekend and middle of the day flights.

Never had a greeting on a Dom flight. Int'l (except NZ) is J so always get a greeting.

I have had the situation that the guy next to me was getting things sent back from J by his friends (SYD-WLG) and the FA felt bad so started bringing J wine to me :)

Don't put your QFF number on your bookings then..
Claim your points after each flight online.
As for priority boarding line, checkin etc, just flash your WP card.

Simple, then they will never know you are a platinum.

I have felt a little embarrassed by it some times.

I was on a flight once and was asked why the guy come up and introduced himself and all i did was kind of ignore the question and sort of glazed over it.

i noticed with CX....only the OWE pax gets a greeting from the CSM....even when I was flying in J, only 3 pax got a special hello and if you need anything let me know...etc etc

F always gets it its F after all.

it doesnt cost anything but the soft product is important

I even got free food when flying AA in an US whY flight. I don't know if that is now standard, or the FA made a mistake.

there was a while when AA was giving out free trail mix and alcohol (I think) to their super elites. I think that has been discontinued now.

That seems to be the case. As a OWS I get nothing on CX. Their own golds get a greeting, but by the person in charge of the respective cabin - so if they are in Y then the head of the Y cabin seems to do the greeting. I was sitting at the galley by the exit one time on a flight ex HKG and the CSM in purple came and said hi to the (I'm assuming) CX Diamond next to me and behind me, and then she mentioned to another crew member that 'you're going to do the golds'.

You get personal greetings on domestic flights? Must be more important than us ordinary Platinums.

Personally I do not mind the greetings on international flights and let the rest of them wonder why I received the personalised greeting and the business amenity kit....

I am happy to forego the greeting if it means I am not flying in whY...

I have not had a greeting in domestic Y for a year or so. International Y is also very patchy (say 1 in 3 flights).

On one occasion flying CX in Y on SIN-HKG, I received no less than four greetings from various levels of FA. As I was the only OWE in that area of the plane, it did start to become embarrassing.

Each of us are different and enjoy or dislike different things in life. My wife is similar to the OP and whilst I am more outgoing and enjoy the contact with the CSS/CSD & FA's, she prefers to slip under the radar.

Wouldn't we be an uninteresting lot if we were all the same

Interesting on that observation - I flew CX twice as WP. First time in Y got a greeting, the next time in J, nothing at all. I thought maybe it was a patchy thing!

On the OPs original point - maybe he can pretend to sleep!

I liked the greetings when I was all too briefly a Platinum who all too often sat in economy! But I agree they can seem a bit silly and pointless.

I never minded the greeting whilst I was WP - patchy on QF, but always greeted on BA and CX.

Often if travelling with my SO, (or colleague) on the same PNR, they would also get a greeting; I enjoyed the opportunity to receive a newspaper - and in all my time of flying, was never offered an amenities kit, PJs, drinks from up front, a J meal or an outbound fast-track card for customs.

Guess they figured the personal greeting, fast-track inbound customs card and newspaper were enough. . . . . . :)

To each their own, but if that's all that you need to worry about - maybe you can send them my way, on my next flight in whY?

...
AA give their EXP's in economy a complimentary alcoholic drink and food item from their BoB menu.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

This entire site is about #firstworldproblems.

Absolutely!

I didn't appreciate that the CSM put his hand out and I had to shake it. Then my wife gets out the bottle of hand sanitiser... I know he's just doing his job and many people love it. Anyway, a first world problem which I will deal with. Perhaps driving gloves, headphones, eye mask and newspaper when I sit down until just after take off! ;)

Whilst I'm not WP so don't get this kind of attention, I have found it a bit odd when flying in cabins other than Y.

When flying first I thought it was ok at the start of the flight, except it seemed forced and it was clear that I was a 20-something, nobody who was flying on a FASA so it wasn't as warm as some First regulars on that route.

At the end of the flight I was watching a movie that would have got me emotional on the ground (but I always seem to be more emotional on planes, particularly when travelling alone) and was having a bit of a cry over breakfast when they came around to ask how my flight had been...

*sob* great *sob* thanks

To be quite honest I would have preferred they skipped that part and spent more time helping newbies with using the ancient technology in First on their Boeing aircraft...
