Fantastic. Now we can get this thread back on track.

I don't think we will get our points for a long time, Optus has other issues at the moment!
Are you suggesting that Optus will drop the ball on its day to day business?

If so, it will be the death of them.

So what is the strategy i should follow here?
I signed up on 16th July and have a payment deducted on
16th July
16th August
16th September

I havent seen any QFF points yet.
When should i cancel?

I would assume 16th October at the earliest, since that's when you've been with Optus for 3 months. Of course, the issue is you'll have a payment taken on that date too.

So are people planning on cancelling the day before? So for me the 15th October? Or is it 4 payments and the cancel?

Further to the post above yours the discussion on page one of this threads suggests four payments may be required, so an extra month seems likely, total $396.

I've been told in writing by Optus that if I cancel the day before the 4th payment, the points are lost. I've also been told that if I cancel before the points have credited, they won't credit at all.

It's beyond my understanding why anyone would choose to cancel prior to receiving the points - even if it went over the 3 or 4 payments, first point should be to contact Optus before cancelling not after.

Will be a nightmare and likely very much losing argument to first cancel then chase points.. the offer was not a "sign up for 3/4 months, cancel and grab a ton of FF points"!

Why is it beyond your understanding? The offer was very clear in that you need hold the plan for a minimum of 3 months. If you cancel after say 3.5 months there is zero chance you won’t receive the points. You may have to chase them and possibly lodge a complaint but you will 100% receive the points.

Are you seriously saying in the hypothetical event that they never credited the points you would be required to keep the service indefinitely?

The Optus terms explicitly state "... you will see the points associated with this offer appear in your QFF account at the end of month 3 from your service activation date" (emphasis added). If you cancel at, say, the 4 month and 1 week mark, you've met your end of the deal, I feel.

not saying that at all.. but I would not under any circumstance be cancelling my account prior to receiving the points unless I was indeed willing to "write off" the prior payments.

I'm primarily referring to those who are trying to "game" the promotion (myself included) by cancelling at the closest date possible without incurring additional charges.. with everything going on at Optus right now, it would be brave indeed to start a protracted argument with them over a points promotion that we have clearly tried to "game" regardless of T&C's.

I do wish those that do though absolutely the best of luck.. as for me, I'll just hold out until points credited now that I'm already in for 3 payments - if it went well beyond 4 or 5 then yes I'd shoot off an email or make contact and at some point decide to cut my losses!

You stated that it would be “likely very much a losing argument to first cancel then chase the points”. This couldn’t be further from the truth. It will 100% be a winning argument provided you have met the requirement to hold the service for 3 months.

Sure, if you’re willing to write off the points by not chasing them up then that’s your prerogative. But if that’s the case then you should reconsider taking up these offers because having to chase these companies is not unusual.

This probably sounds silly, but does one have to use the SIM?
My account commenced on the 25th July and I have made 3 payments but have not used the SIM. Do I need to use the account to receive the 60,000 QFF points or simply just pay the monthly fee to keep the account active? If so, I have an old phone to use it in but just figured opening the account and paying for it was sufficient.

As long as the account is active, I wouldn't expect that you need to do anything else.

I think I have used it once, just popped in to the phone and made a call to my other number then took it out. Just awaiting points now!

I've activated the card (I have a twin sim phone) and donating the data through the Optus app. Besides getting the points, I can do some good.

EDIT - I meant to say donating, not finding

I have the service as an eSim on my otherwise Telstra phone. I just turn on the Optus data each day, go to the app, "donate" 10GB data, then switch back to the Telstra data (faster speed). Might as well do something good with the plan.

[I think @kookaburra75 was meaning to say the same]
