I went for the Optus points before they did the 60,000 offer and went for the plan with 15,000 bonus, this was to be awarded after 3 and then 6 months. There was a difference between the 3 month 'activity' and when the points were afforded, as per image below.

now following the same pattern I would expect to get the points on 23/09/2022 with 'activity took place on 13-sep-2022'

issue is i'm thinking of jumping to telstra, partly so i can grab the next 60,000 when it occurs and so i can get the JB Hi Fi telstra offer, this will mean killing off the optus plan though, which is after the 'activity' date but the points havent arrived yet.

so my question ... do i need to wait till the points land in the account or is knowing the activity date is passed enough?

cheers.

I would always wait for the points to post before cancelling whether it's QF Health Insurance or these other offers.

I factored in four months to get the Optus points.

I'd wait for the points, closing something before the points gives plenty of excuses not to talk to you about it if your not even a customer any more.

Can someone confirm that Points Club / Plus takes into account the "Activity" date? (i.e. if your points land in the new membership year, but the activity date was in the last membership year, will you be retroactively be granted PC/PCP?)

Worth keeping in mind if your not aware that the JB HiFi Telstra connection locks you in (where by Telstra direct does not) and more importantly, you will not be getting the same Telstra coverage - resellers of Telstra network do not get the same network coverage as Telstra direct (and with 5G it can be significant).

ive known the lock in and danced the dance with jb a few rotations now, are you sure about the coverage? no small print or asterix?

Apologies seems like JB are no longer selling the Telstra wholesale network (like Aldi, Woolworths, Belong etc.) so you’ll get the full Telstra network. Telstra have there own and the lesser but cheaper Telstra Wholesale network for those rebranded.

This is not quite correct. Telstra through JB Hi-Fi does not give you less coverage like with other MVNO's (Woolworths Mobile, ALDI Mobile etc...).

JB Hi-Fi's Telstra offerings are through the old Siebel system, which is why they are locked to fixed terms and don't offer 5G. But this does not reduce your coverage on the 4G network as it uses the retail network (Telstra's full network) rather than the wholesale network. Other carriers such as Boost Mobile and Belong also use the retail network.

Telstra have been offering 5G trials to these non-MVNO networks lately (see Boost: 5G Coverage FAQs). And it seems like JB Hi-Fi now offers 5G on all plans above $69 (see https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...-4595-4afd-b5af-3d3b9eb68bbf.pdf?v=1650346245).

No worries, I thought that was the case because I picked their brains a few times over the years :)
