Apparently the link no longer works because farecompare website has been revamped, and no one knows if the searches will become available again. The new website is there and it is hard to navigate (from my view).
 
Great thread Markis.
It's given me a great suggestion on how to carefully select a location for a domestic family holiday and to grab myself a few SC at the same time.

Have been trying to get 250SC's for <$500/$600 in the LOTFAP in June/July. Might think closer to home now.

I know its wrong, but I don't mind spending a day or two being a tourist, before I turn around.:oops:
 
Going on my first NAN run in January.
As I am now heading back to Melbourne a few days later for beer and a concert, was looking at either extending my Fiji experience or picking up a few more SC - and it looks like I can combine it all into one - $380 extra gets me 100 SC more, 3000-4000 more FF points just for having a different starting point.

I have not played around with anymore dates etc. (did see a lower starting fare, but not suitable dates) but the cost per SC is better than starting in Brisvegas.
 
Just had a quick look at J (books into D class) fares ex TPE via HKG to LAX & the fare is TWD82,417.00 return plus taxes TWD11,528.00 total pp TWD93,675.00 or AUD3,051.32.
 
Looking at a NAN run, combining a holiday with earning SC. Have checked quite a few dates using markis10’s infamous NAN run but was unable to find any that were even close to the $1500 return fare. But what I did find was that you could book ADL-MEL, MEL-NAN for $1875 earning 400 SC. 1 extra leg though. Thanks markis10 for sharing this information.

Sadly the traditional NAN run has had its routing rules changed, which means the east coast options are limited, ironically the central and west coast options are now in play, at the expense often of missing the F lounge in SYD.

that would make it even better is if you could add a few flights starting in regional areas like ABX,the NAN run is interesting for me but I would need to
adjust the routing with a positioning flight ,say ABX-SYD-MEL ,how would that affect points and SC earn for a silver like myself?

I think a DJ J redemption ABX PER would be a good positioning flight, the issue is the regionals present poor redemption options, but sometimes good Y value, such as BNE MKY via ROK for $80.

It was very popular here for a while, now that the routing options have changed to make it advantageous for West/central Australian customers it will probably not be as popular as before.
 
With the MKY paid run, if you book a comfort seat too, it becomes even better. 40SC/4000 points is good, but 80SC/8000 points without taxes is even better :p

The CX J deals TPE-Australia are great. I think I'll put all my HKG flying through there now.
In terms of positioning flights how much are HKG-TPE one-way or return flights normally?

When I received the double SC offer (I was one of the lucky ones) I did some research on various JASA routes and, of course, this thread proved extremely useful.

I wanted to use points only rather than points + $. I also wanted to reduce my usage of Points per SC earned as much as possible.

At the end of my research I realised, coincidentally, that I had worked out what I thought was the best usage for each capital city.

There are no surprises here as all are listed in this thread but I thought I'd list a summary of the best routes - the Points/SC usage is based on single SC, not double.
These were the best I could find at the time. These are the base points cost but you can net off the Status and Cabin gains too.

Adelaide
ADL-xBNE-TSV = 120 SC for 37482 points or 312 points/SC (day return not possible in this direction but TSV-xBNE-ADL outbound is possible)
ADL-xSYD-CBR = 100SC for 35735 points or 357 points/SC (day return possible) (Thx - ferni)

Brisbane
BNE-MEL-PER-KTA = 200 SC for 54775 pts or 274 points/SC
(very limited days availability - Markis10)
BNE-ADL-PER-KTA = 200 SC for 58018 pts or 290 points/SC

Canberra
CBR-xSYD-HBA = 100 SC for 29868 points or 299 points/SC (day return not possible but can return via HBA-xMEL-CBR)
CBR-xSYD-xPER-KTA = 180 SC for 57973 points or 322 points/SC (overnight in KTA required)

Darwin
DRW-xBNE-TSV = 140 SC for 38463 points or 275 points/SC (day return not possible in this direction but TSV-xBNE-DRW outbound is possible)

Hobart

Great effort and thanks for posting...other factors that are important for me (and probably for other as well) is departure city (where I live;)), and for me that is Sydney, avoiding having to stay (and pay) nights away from home, and availability on weekends to avoid taking any time off work...so for my circumstances Syd-Bne-Tsv return JASA for 200 SCs for around 48000 points (net 42000 points) and $230 in taxes is the best for my needs, and what i did 2 months ago...now only if I had waited 2 months to book and do the above after I received the dble SCs promo...:shock::evil:
 
Any table etc would quickly go out of date as the routing rules can be changed overnight (as in the case of the NAN run) or fares change, was OT long ago TSV DRW was 30k.
