Some very interesting JASA fares been thrown up by QF for the new route OOL......

Have a poke round from MEL and ADL..... I just found and booked a great one ;)

I recall reading somewhere that MIA-ORD falls into the 1201-2400 status credit band, even though Great Circle Mapper says it's 1197 miles. Is this correct?

Yes, it definitely is. I flew it earlier in the year on an SC run and it was ovr 1204. Here's the line from my statement:

It is indeed 1204 miles according to Qantas.

Makes some point redemptions on that route that much more costly.

there are a few 'miles' nautical - statute, probably some others i have missed. Always best to check with the airline.

I think HKG- MNL just falls over the line in that category as well.

I do like ORD-MIA. economical flying IMHO!

Haven't looked into stopovers yet. However, all of those should be around 180/SC if you use minimal points + cash and not including points you get back from the flights.

Thanks for your original post. I did some calculations and have shown them in the table below. You are right, it averages out to about 180/SC with cash or 340 using points only. Of course you will, as you point out, get points back depending on your current status.

I've updated my original post with the best domestic JASA sc runs that I can find using points or points plus cash. I've added the Gold Coast in too as there are a couple of options from there now.
The main changes have been to alter the points and change some of itineraries where the transit airport has altered or there's an alternative transit point. Also, some of the routes can now be achieved on a day trip that couldn't have been before.

Please point out any better options if you know of them so that we can keep this relatively current.

This thread is an overview regarding the Best Status Run Options for QFF. It was getting too 'bloated' with specific questions, requests, answers and discussion thereof.

Most of these posts have now been split off to the thread below. Please only post in this thread in relation to general comments about the better status runs.

MH Asia J Possibilities

BKK-KUL-HKG: 280SC Pricing At 28,425THB presently in D Class so roughly $3.26/SC AUD

Malaysia Domestic J Seems Good Too

KUL-PEN: 80SC Pricing At 760MYR presently in Z Class for $2.95/SC AUD

Looks like best deal might be MEL-KUL on the EK/QF codeshare and then MH for intra Asia J flights.

MH Asia J Possibilities

I'm sure I've seen this one on AFF somewhere but can't find it after much searching ...
MH HKG-DPS return via KUL in booking class Z is HKG$5493 which is about AUD$690.
1591 miles + 1221 miles = 320SCs at $2.16 each.

Revitalising our old fav, SJU... AA is matching UA sale fares from SFO (and various other cities) to/from SJU. I'm seeing $460 ai for 360 SCs ($1.28 per SC) via ORD and MSY (and possibly other routes) from July'ish to Nov 19th. You will need to use ITA Matrix to define the 4 segments as AA limits you to three segments in its 'view all results' output.

I've just booked a similar fare but as SFO-LAX-JFK-MIA-SJU for $535 and netting 360 SCs. The difference is the LAX-JFK overnight flight is on a 762 (3 class) in Flagship first class sleepers, along with the JFK-MIA segment. Well worth the extra ~$75 IMHO. My return flights are SJU-MIA-JFK-ORD-SAN for $448 netting 360 SCs ($1.24 per SC).

So all up, 720 SCs for ~$970 AUD (using my 28 degrees at AUD/USD 1.021 forex). Not as good as some of the multi-city killer deals, but pretty good considering I was going to SJU anyway! Looking forward to my 8 day Caribbean cruise now!

You've done really well there. You must have a little trick to get first class on a 3-class flight. Whenever I've done dummy bookings in the past, the instant upgrade wants to book into business seats, not first, on the 3-class transcon.

Fare rules vary and in some cases this First seat is indeed possible. When the original LAS-//-SJU head-up was posted back in early 2011 such was permiited.

A number of people (and me!) just received a double status credits email from Qantas, so this topic could just become much more interesting.
whoohoo!!

Exactly. How many people have done SYD-xPER-KTA return? 1120 status credits for 72000 and $365
The only problem is leaving Sydney at 6am and getting back to Sydney off the red eye at 6.10am the next morning.
