This may be of interest to some here. I've just booked VNO-HEL-AMS as a Business Light fare for €210.68. The VNO-HEL leg is on a Nordic Regional Airlines ATR72 with Y-only seating, so books into Flex Economy. HEL-AMS is in J, and as it happens, this particular flight is on an A350 with the new AirLounge seating. Earns 80 SC in total :)
wow not bad. I had been listening to Noel Phillips, and flying via North Africa QATAR Airways can also net interesting deals. Via Cairo, Tunis and is not as glamorous via Terminal 5 LHR. Melbourne in first can be 1800 USD dollars compared to 18K if booked starting in Paris.

Very Insider Knowledge, and Noel gets excellent deals on FlyerTalk (much Like Australian Frequent Flyer).

It's been a little while seen we've seen a QF J sale to DPS. 320 SCs round-trip for BNE-SYD-DPS or ADL-SYD-DPS for $2,499.

As an added bonus, SYD-DPS is now an A330.

Rather than the dreaded 737 from Melbourne, we are going via SYD in June @Mattg though slightly more, came in at $2700 approx per pax.
When looking a few months back for next year prices were just sub $4k return!

In terms of a pure status credit run, I would rate this one fairly poorly since you are spending $6 per status credit. By contrast in October I flew LAX > PDX > SEA > LAX on Alaskan business for $550 AUD which earned me 160 status credits ($3.44 status credit). With that being said, if you plan on visiting Bali anyway, then yes the price is good here considering you are travelling in business.

Again, as many people have said. Not everyone is based in the US or has the opportunity to position to the US for SC Run. This is decent by non-DSC Oz based standards.

There are some status runs you can get domestically here in Australia as well that whilst not the best in status credits per dollar are comparable to the DPS itinerary:
  • Sydney to Darwin for ~$500 AUD return on a JetStar MAX fare (80 status credits minimum)
  • Sydney to Melbourne for $285 AUD return on a JetStar MAX fare (40 status credits minimum)

Have fun spending weeks on a plane and bucketloads on accommodation to reach Platinum. Clearly you place zero value on your time.

It depends on what your aim is. If your aim is purely to accumulate status credits then you could probably turn this into a same day turn. If you are looking for a vacation then this could also be a way to have your cake and eat it too (i.e. enjoy your vacation at a discount whilst accumulating a decent chunk of status credits)

And in JQ Y, no less... :D
Don't knock it until you try it. JétStar is the luxury brand of Qantas. One of the nice things about them is they cancel their flights a lot which means you could turn the SYD > DRW trip into a SYD > ADL > DRW trip and earn 60 status credits instead of 40. Also the catering ain't bad either, especially if you're on a MAX fare and have that meal voucher. Certainly a step above the crackers and cheese QF puts out on many of their flights.

Oh I’ve tried it. Once each in Y and ‘j’ (lower case intended), and I learn from my mistakes 😎 I only fly mainline J when on QF

SYD-NOU is showing as $1099, it is SYD-NLK that is $999

Strange... QF sent a press release saying that Sydney-New Caledonia is $999.

I just checked the fares on Qantas.com and $1099 is indeed the correct price (sigh). Still not terrible value.

Work experience kids at play not knowing their airport codes?

Yeah its decent value and the same price I paid to fly there at Easter last year.
