Not to mention Obama's speech about doing something on carbon overnight. So USA zero for now, except California (which has some sort of carbon thingy).

California needs a carbon thingy because they're virtually bankrupt

Supporting Gillard and a Labor Government.
Can you quote Windsor's position on that before the election ?

From a quick Google the electorate couldn't have been feeling that "betrayed" - he was still lining up to take ~50% of the primary vote.

Looks like another attempt at a spill!

What an utter looney bin that rabble are...

Like Richo said on QandA, not me personally, but for Labor supporters you'd hope to God that he has actually been thinking of a platform to run on for the election or will he just stick his mug on the election posters instead of hers??? Seeing once again half the front bench will probably resign and another bunch of new faces inserted with no knowledge of specific policy areas he'll have to be doing the talking for everything i imagine...

Have you ever seen such an undignified scramble to be first in line for a thrashing???

Yes they have achieved an enormous amount. They are responsible for Julia's legislation getting through the lower house and that's what they are quite rightly being judged on.

The independents certainly had their chance to make their decisions and were all smiles and happiness when they did... I guess they realise they will soon be back to the non-entities they were before they had their 15 minutes of fame, well probably even less than non-entities in the future... When it comes time to lie on their bed they made they are seeming to want to bail and blame others...

Lets just hope they put a time limit on all you know whose "Gotta love ya but leave ya" dronings... :)

Indeed. For example, it could be that Moody is referring to the "mob" participating in the "conservative hate campaign".
Indeed. We could seek clarification. Shall I circulate a petition to that effect?

Speaking of petitions. Things very uncertain at the moment but if a petition is being circulated in the ALP for a leadership ballot for a potential leadership spill soon. But could still be academic anyway as Simon Benson has reported that several ALP sources have confirmed that the AWU and TWU will potentially disendorse any ALP members supporting Rudd. Most people seem to think that Shorten still is the key to winning any potential ballot.

I am more interested to see if Shorten backs either Rudd or Gillard, in either case they would be expected to lose an upcoming election. Shorten has nothing to gain by either Rudd or Gillard taking the ALP "over the cliff" and it would seem to be Shorten's job to rebuild the ALP from opposition. Shorten is regarded as smart and ambitious but will be interesting to see if he jumps and which way he jumps if he has to make a choice.

All predicated on a contested leadership ballot actually happening - which I still don't think is a sure thing. Maybe another "clayton's ballot" like a few months ago?

Will be interesting to see if the leadership ballot is real or not, and how long the denial that it exists persists in the next few hours.

Which comments in particular?

There has been some fairly nasty personal attacks on TA in this thread, if you didn't say any of them fair enough I believe you.

I'm certainly not trolling through about 3500 posts to make a point!

That's the petition I was referring to. Interesting to see the union bosses having a say. Seems to me that they are more interested in maintaining their share of a dwindling union membership base than in keeping the ALP as a party worth voting for.

Interesting times all round. I could use a bit of boredom in government.

The Unions control who is PM. Yet the percentage of employees in unions is around 18%. Democracy?

The unions can't make anyone PM who wasn't elected by the people.

Rudd was elected by the people and the unions removed him.

Correct - I think what Pushka was referring to was that the unions may or may not be able to dictate how members of the ALP caucus vote in a leadership ballot and therefore which member of the ALP gets to be the leader of the ALP - and ergo - whom gets to be PM.
