70 billion dollars of future debt.
Debt that should be paid when it comes due, by the people of the day, not today when the money could have been used to buy productive assets that could go towards generating revenue to cover that future debt.

All the future fund did was give politicians even less motivation to do a good job. After all, it's not like their retirements count on whether or not their economy is good, now, does it ?

And to think we are missing voting in Australia when there is a sausage sizzle at our local school voting location. We have missed all the adverts over the last month by being in the UK.

And he spent a hell of a lot of money on middle class welfare. Welfare that can't be undone judging by the screams of blue murder whenever the alp has tried to cap and limit costellos middle class welfare.

Now what exactly is the future fund supposed to buy.

The unfunded superannuation liabilities for defined-benefit-scheme recipients in the public service.

That was what the future fund was setup to fund.

Alternatively - they could have simply left it for tomorrow's taxpayer to pick up the tab.

Really?? You seriously believe that???

This is what concerns me about the country.

Today's debt is tomorrow's taxation.

By all means argue about whether $100 spent on middle-class welfare should instead be spent on infrastructure.

But to argue against the Future Fund (which was setup to fund unfunded liabilities) is ridiculous.

Do you take cash advances from your credit card to spend on a new swimming pool?

Well hell - maybe you do.

Can't voting be modelled on 'reality television'? I'll pay 55c to vote for my preferred party.

This will be the first election in over a decade that I've not been a silent elector (postal voter). I drove past the local primary school and the line was horrific! I'll re-assess in an hr or two.

I wonder what the queue will be like around 5.30pm and whether people will miss out on voting when they close the doors.

Never paid any attention to a polling station before as I don't vote. Dropped the fiancé off to vote this morning and was astonished to see not only a squillion election posters around the school but also that she had to run a gauntlet of people at the entrance all pushing their own party. That's bullcrap.

Back home, and I know this is not my home I get no say, yada yada yada, but where I come from all campaigning and campaign paraphernalia is prohibited around polling booths.

It's an independent, impartial and poster free zone.... All campaigning is also ceased 7 days out from the Election Day.

Something else that struck me as odd was the consistent heavily negative advertising and barrage of Facebook ads of a negative nature from the Labour Party... Is that really necessary?

It'll ease off after lunch. The HTV folk will be flaking out by mid-afternoon.

Well, they didn't have much in the way of positives. Gotta go with what you got.

Some people need the how to vote cards as they have no idea about who is who in their electorate until they arrive at the polling booth.

I also agree about the negative FB ads from Labor. In the case of my electorate much of the stuff in the ads were blatantly incorrect. (I'll leave the word lies for the cynics)

The canny folk set up nearest the door so that their HTV card is on top. There's always a few who have tuned out and just turn up to get their names crossed off. Gotta vote for somebody.

The volunteers handing out the how to vote material is always handy, I generally know who I want to put as number 1 but then I like to decide my own preference (usually so that I can place the Fred Nile Godbotherer Party last). It's not "bullcrap" and they are restricted as to how close to the actual polling place they can be, and none that I passed were at all agressive. The polling place itself is independent, impartial and poster free. The people working where I voted this morning were quickly removing any material from the little boxes where we filled in our ballots.

I didn't notice any facebook advertising from any of the parties, I'm guessing it was targetted. I'm being driven nuts by Finnair and Vietnamese Airlines advertising, but nothing political.

So basically no laurels required for finally funding a debt that multiple governments have ignored.

One thing Joh did right, funded qld public service super liability.

Smug.

Pete, who would prefer a parliament of independents

Not really. Ditch the witch, screams about taking away middle class welfare. Andrew bolt and Janet albrectsen. All very vocal stuff.

The great thing about this election is i'll be allowed to watch the rugby tonight as there'll only be election on the other channels and the girls might let me control the TV.

Some consistency please.Just a short time ago you were complaining the Baby Boomers were leaving a mess for future generation. So a Baby Boomer,Costello, actually puts aside funds to pay for a future liability that until then was unfunded and you are complaining.Really.

It's actually a very good point. Improving productivity by investment in infrastructure would be another way to fund that liability.
