Who cares what Labour thinks or does they are dead in the water, and I am very glad about that. It's about time the boot was on the right foot not the left I am sick and tired of that woman, not because she is a woman but because she is absolutely hopeless

Just remember there'll be constant cries of "Abbott is cutting spending on_____." When the tax take is X and you currently spend more than X something has to give. Personally I can see tax rates, either company or personal (or both) being increased to try and sort this mess out sooner rather than later.

I'd be really pleased to hear the words "we are cutting spending on...." I shudder now when Julia makes another announcement and wonder who she's bribing now and how much more debt we can carry to pay for it.

Of course the simple solution is to lift the gst to 12.5%...it is clearly only a matter of time as it's arguably the most palatable way to increase government income.

Libs could then manage us back into a small surplus and a tight efficient government.
The socialists would continue to pee it all up against the best voting wall.. and blame something/anything when they again faced the electorate with empty coffers.
Either way it might generate some infrastructure spending that would prop up some of the blue collar unemployment arising from the mining boom ending.

Pretty fair tool the gst .. even those on welfare have to pay gst on their ciggies beer video's and nappies.

I think 15% is suggested, and agree simplest fairest way.

Yeah even the fascists have to pay GST. Even if they don't have to pay other taxes due to having family trusts and use of other tax avoidance schemes.

Use of the word fascist was in response to the word socialist. neither term is really accurate when describing Australian politics but given the simplistic polemics raised here we have to use base terms so that the right wing can keep up with the conversation. Socialist is commonly used to describe the left side of politics therefore in this context fascist can be correctly used to describe the right side of politics.

The GST goes to the States so it does not fix the Federal deficit. Then the carve up of the GST has no relationship to where the tax is generated so there would be a bit of a tussle over who should get the money.
Currently WA will not vote through any increase and you need every State to agree.

Of course you could wind back other payments to the states to help the federal budget if GST receipts were larger.

Agreement from every state and also the feds is needed to change the rate so if folks want the GST rate to remain the same they should vote such that there is always a mix of political persuasions in power across the various governments.

Of course in the past Fascists have often described themselves as National Socialists so your argument fails. The right side of politics is usually called Conservative.

I think fascists and communists are probably the extremes of the political spectrum... Plenty of labor types are happy to extoll socialist values, over there champagnes... :)

And yes GST is for the States, lets not stuff around with that or it will be a honey pot that the pollies will continue to return to rather than taking the hard decisions...

And yet the commies take out the title of the biggest mass murderers of the 20th century by some margin... Funny that Facism is denigrated so utterly and totally whilst Communist parties still exist...

And while your no doubt right, who gives a toss what Julia would add...

I meant more about what she thinks makes up a facist and how that might apply to Tony...

Yes in terms of her policies and mouthing offs we still need to listen for a bit longer...

Don't like my chances of getting anymore $900 handouts, i think i fall outside of the current flavour of the month working class and down and outers so more likely to have to subsidise anymore hand outs than enjoy them...

Yes. The European fall in carbon price isn't holding up at all. Whatmeworry, did you even see the news coverage this week? I think you need to change your user name and start.

The Liberals won't cut any taxes and will hopefully cut back the John Howard middle class welfare to his "battlers"!

I'm not looking for a cut in taxes. We are in too much financial debt to do that. I'm simply looking forward to many snouts in the trough being removed and spectacularly unsuccessful and unfunded pipe dreams being scrapped. I don't want them to reduce company tax. I just want responsible government.
