Philippine Airlines Delays/Cancellations

On Tuesday 28 April 2020, PR209, the 2030 hours MNL down to MEL (refurbished A333 RP-C8789) departed at 2151 and with little traffic around took off promptly at 2202, arriving on Wednesday 29 at 0721 hours, 51 minutes late.

The 0900 hours return flight has been delayed until at least 1000. It may be another repatriation flight for Filipinos.

On Wednesday 1 July 2020, PR212, the coronavirus pandemic 1035 hours SYD - MNL has been cancelled. Four others of the remaining 10 international flights today have also got the flick. This is unusual: on many days recently, SYD has been down to about four international departures a day.

PR210, the 0800 hours MEL - MNL was also cancelled. Victoria's Premier announced yesterday that international flights would be diverted for two weeks from MEL (due to the continuing spike in coronavirus cases in Melbourne) but it's doubtful PR knew about this sufficiently in advance to cancel this flight, so this 'no show' may have been due to other reasons.

PR212, the 1035 hours, is again cancelled from SYD to MNL on Saturday 4 July 2020.

Another day, Sunday 5 July, and a further cancellation of PR212, 1035 hours SYD - MNL. Generally airport websites only show flights cancelled within a day or so of departure, not ones that were wiped weeks ago.

On Saturday 25 July 2020, the increasingly rare PR212, the 1035 hours (A333 RP-C8771 - a 'high capacity' unrefurbished one with an unattractive configuration) took off from SYD at 1147 hours so arrival in MNL is estimated as 1741 hours, 51 minutes late.

Prior to the draconian restriction on inbound international passenger numbers per aircraft (and per day), during the earlier stages of the pandemic PR tended to have higher load factors than some other airlines, perhaps because its embassy and/or government was facilitating the movement of its citizens.

Despite PR209 from MNL having arrived hours earlier, PR210 on Wednesday 12 August 2020 from MEL up to MNL - a refurbished A333 in shape of RP-C7782, unusual as since coronavirus, usually the unrefurbished ones with crammed seating had visisted - did not take off until 1252 depsite being a 1030 hours departure. Arrival in MNL is predicted at 1845, 95 minutes tardy.

On Friday 2 October 2020, PR212, the occasional 1035 hours SYD - MNL was cancelled.

This is also the case on Saturday 3.

Sunday 20 December 2020 sees the very occasional - as with so many international airliens during 'the virus' - PR5212 (the 1150 hours SYD - MNL) take off at 1306 hours, 76 minutes late with arrival suggested as 1800, an hour late. It is an A333.

PR has become a far less regular visitor to Australia, with many flights no longer operating. It is months since it has serviced BNE.

Most unusually, on Friday evening 22 January 2021, PR5211 operated with A321 RP-C9933 - itself not the norm as MEL and SYD flights are typically A333s - at 2250 hours from MNL down to SYD, then with the same flight number operating SYD to MEL at a scheduled 1135 hours and finally MEL - MNL at 1440 hours, taking off at 1457.

Saturday 15 May 2021 finds PR5211 (A321 RP-C9933), the 1125 hours SYD - MEL (on a triangular routing ex and to MNL) taking off at 1212 with arrival at 1333, 33 minutes late.

Strangely whenever this flight operates it retains the same designation MNL - SYD - MEL - MNL.

PR210 (1015 hours Sunday 19 December 2021 MEL up to MNL) had RP-C9936 with takeoff at 1054 but arrival at 1609, 49 minutes late.

PR210 remains the 1015 hours MEL - MNL. While this may soon change for the better, at present it's just once weekly. On Sunday 13 February 2022, PR210 took off at 1114 with A321 RP-C9933, a smaller aircraft (but with 12 lie-flat J seats) than the airline used to use to MEL and SYD. MNL arrival is suggested as 40 minutes tardy at 1900 hours.

Regular runner PR211 from MNL overnight to SYD has tended to be extremely punctual - it's three times a week, but from 2 April 2022 becomes five times a week - but on Tuesday 22 March 2022, A321 RP-C9933 had to divert to DVO en route, possibly for fuel?

It took off from DVO at 0133 hours on Wednesday 23 with SYD arrival suggested as 1102 hours, so the 1150 hours SYD - MNL PR212 will be delayed until an expected 1330 in its pushback.

On Sunday 27 March 2022, PR210 (A321 RP-C9933 with its 12 lie flat J seats, quite unusual for this class) as the 1015 hours MEL - MNL took off at 1130. Arrival should be at 1609, 49 minutes late.

PR211 from MNL overnight from SYD and the Tuesday 29 March 2022 departure of PR212 from SYD back up to MNL have been cancelled.

On Tuesday 5 April 2022, PR209 from MNL (A321 RP-C9936) arrived MEL six minutes late at 0646 hours but the returning PR210, the 0810 hours, did not take off until 1031, so arrival looks to be at 1639 hours, 119 minutes tardy.

Saturday 9 April 2022 has seen PR210 (0810 hours morning MEL - MNL, A321 RP-C9933 not take off until 1001 hours, arriving at 1552 hours, 72 minutes late. The inbound had only been six minutes late arriving at 0646 hours.

On Wednesday 13 April 2022, PR211 overnight from MNL arrived SYD at 0823 hours, 22 minutes early with A330 RP-C8783. However the return flight, PR 212 (the 1015 hours) was not airborne until 1148 hours so MNL arrival is forecast as 1736 hours, 46 minutes late.
