I wonder if a system where if you were Platinum, you could attend the Lounge and guest your family/friends in, providing you or they had a boarding pass for a QF flight? Would that solve the issue of being able to take friends and family when they fly?

Re: Platinum 1 Call

With the double VA SC offer, I will now be able to retain VA WP in the next 4 weeks (1 x Lax rtn in J). WP retain is done. Decision now is to go for WP1 or AA Exp. Probably not a hard decision? Wonder what DrRon would recommend?

Elementary, my dear Watson. The choice is obvious!

WPs, if departing or arriving that day, can guest 2 flying or non persons into the lounge. However if you, the WP, are not flying that day but 1 of the guests is or had flown QF that day and they do not have lounge access rights, then no one gets into the lounge. Go figure?

It stops WP's trawling the airport for a 'guest' that could help them get into the lounge.

This was the discussion at the lunch last week.

It makes sense - but there would have to be a way of making sure that your family/friends were not "recently acquired" ;)

That WP must be a real Lounge Lizard.  Probably needs a friend / life more than a drink. Besides I have never been stopped walking into a QF lounge, flashing the WP card, even when doing so with MsRockyRoad and junior.

It might also be able to be worked around if a WP could nominate the names of say 4 family/friends members that they could put on their account to be able to guest in even if they aren't flying themselves...

Probably wouldn't be able to change whenever they felt like as then yes they could probably acquire a 'friend' at the airport, quick change of name on the system to accommodate this new friend and then in they go, as unlikely as that all sounds... But if they could just nominate 4 members at the start of the QF year and they be locked in for say 3 month periods then those people would have to flash their BP for any or all to get in...

But a guest pass system might be more flexible and less work for QF...

Which would work best would probably depend on how many passes/year you would get and how big a circle of people you might know that travel/you want to guest in vs how often your small/select group of family/friends might travel without you doing so on the day...

They could even offer the WP the choice at the start of their QF year...

No matter what they do now someone won't be happy - whether it is the Fionas who cant fly QF but want access or the ones who want to send off loved ones or the ones who want to take more guests in less frequently rather than 2 guests all of the time.

On a related note ATA really still seems to exist for me - I haven't had anyone check for a boarding pass to confirm flying or flown on ANY of my DOM flights in the past six months. That is with guests traveling with me.

I suspect - given the facial expression when you mentioned this - that this will change in the near future.

Hey Guys how is it now with anytime access to QF lounges. I have been able to get in on occasion being WP1.

Not sure this is exception or a stable phenomenon.

Anytime access no longer exists.

Same day domestic access for WP and above works fine.

Some ports they wish to scan your card to ensure eligibility, other ports (SYD/BNE/MEL typically) are able to verify your eligibility via telepathetic abilities.

They know and trust that no-one here would try and flout the rules :)

Ah then I have been lucky on the occasions. My excuse is telling the truth i.e. not flying wanted to use lounge (domestic) offering a reasonable explanation.
Have not been turned down yet. But this I see is an exception not the norm. My sampling size has been small.

I can't believe this thread is still open, but I guess ATA could still be around in theory as I frequently just flash my card and am let in. I don't need to pickup boarding passes, but I do because I collect them. That said, I'll put money on the time I actually use ATA as the time they scan my card... so usually if I need to guest a friend in but am not travelling myself, I book a throwaway Jetstar fare ;)

This thread had no posts for nearly two years. I thought that it had been closed.

For domestic if you buy a fully refundable fare leaving at 23.00 on the day you want to use the lunge and keep moving the date back once youre done you can theoretically make it anytime access. This is probably more hassle than its worth however.

.... and unnecessarily ties up a bunch of cash :!:

The only times I have ever shown a boarding pass is when I have needed to change a flight. At MEL I have never shown a boarding pass. A flash of the card and straight in.
