I just flash my card when walking past and have never been denied entry ever.

My cousin came up with an innovative solution. He just used a PDF editor to change the date on a J boarding pass whenever he needed to use a lounge and flashed it as he walked in.

The day They scan the boarding pass is when he's up a creek without a paddle

The only times I have ever shown a boarding pass is when I have needed to change a flight. At MEL I have never shown a boarding pass. A flash of the card and straight in.
But everyone knows who you are Tony. You probably don't even need to flash the card.

Yeah, he obviously would never do it in the international terminal but they never scan the BP's in any domestic J lounge

So if they scan it you'll be in a fair bit of trouble?

You would get kicked out of the FF program. And all lounges.

With lounges as full as they are, I think there should be far stronger controls/checks on entry.

What fraudulent behaviour. Innovative? Not at all.
So surprised that you would even dare to share that publicly.

Are you suggesting that high lounge usage is due to lots of unauthorized people gaining access? I very seriously doubt that; and there seems to be widespread agreement that the removal of "anytime access" has had no effect whatsoever on lounge occupancy levels.

Anytime Access to lounges did not have any effect whatsoever on overcrowding in the lounges.

If lounges were as overcrowded as Qantas claims they were then they would not be selling Qantas Club membership with 45% discount as they are doing right now.

Since the removal they've perhaps had less overcrowding due to a different reason, the rebrand and relaunch of Virgin Australia Velocity, so they might need to boost numbers.

I used to do this when I was NB and couldn't afford J tickets. Having had a taste of the J lounge there was no way I was going back down onto the concourse! Used to give me a frisson of excitement every time I presented my modified PDF boarding pass to the lounge dragon.

Wonder what you'd do if they decided to scan it..

I would not be surprised though if there were people who did not have access to the lounge on the day but still flash the card and try to get in to the lounge. What is there to lose other than be turned away?

I was waiting to get in to BNE business lounge when the person in front flashed a Qantas Club card to try and get in to Qantas Lounge. He was asked for boarding pass and could not produce one so was turned away. No marks against his name. Just an honest mistake thinking they have access.

Also in BNE if you flash your Platinum card and walk to the right you are generally not challenged as you may need boarding pass and this can only be done inside the lounge. Who is going to check if you went to service desk inside lounge?

And there are times in most lounges when staff are busy with customers at the time and they just wave you through without looking at the details properly.

Indeed, I think holding a fake boarding pass in an airport would NOT go down well with federal police who would likely be called.

This has actually happened..... (He had a piece of paper that looked like a print out)
Fed police attended.
Man was taken away - no idea what actually happened to them.
Staff said tried to access with no travel plans - and then became agitated when he got told to disappear.
Unsure if it was just because he kicked up a stink though.

I know ages ago QF had 'smart gates' as a live project but seems to have been put on ice.

I enter the MEL QFd lounge just flashing WP card and then enter the QFd J lounge through the glass doors where I check in (usually wanting an earlier flight).
At the entrance to the QFd normal lounge I am never challenged as I flash the card and keep walking.
