Platinum Shadow - how does it work?

Maybe a wp can oust a shadow of a fellow traveller. I have no inside knowledge tho...
...
That was not the case when comparing seat selection maps with another WP on the same flight.

Just to stir the confusion pot....

I have a multi sector trip coming up in a mixture of whY, Y+ and J. Sometimes the shadow is there - according to EF - and sometimes not. The flights are in April/May 2012.

Go figure.

I'm not sure.. on my flight to AKL soon I definately have a shadow as it has moved with me as I changed seats.
Here's and example of a shadow on a lightly loaded business cab for a trans Tasman flight:

WP in 1F ...

I have not had a shadow on my last few flights - I shall be avoiding 73xs in future after two in quick succession.

On a Dash8 yesterday the WPs all had the seats next to them blocked.

A lot of time the forward seats are blocked on Dash8's for trim which may not be done until the day or day prior. If WP's have already selected their seats several days prior QF mayleave them where they are & block what other forward seats necessary to 'trim' the aircraft.

So not always a WP shadow but just an operational thing with the same results ie spare seat.

My shadow seems to be fading.

Of four current bookings I have in the system, three are not showing a shadow. The seat next to me is wide open.

I seem to have a shadow as PS (though I have bookings in the system which will make me WP, though this isn't the final WP qualifying flight)... was able to select 2F on an upcoming BNE-AKL flight, and 2D then appeared as blocked on EF, but selectable by me... The flight loadings then changed to J0, and the shadow disappeared, but 2D remained unassigned... now the loadings have dropped back to J3, the shadow has re-appeared... a premature WP shadow, or is this just what QF do with row 2 T/T? :)

is this a 763?

Ahhh ... that makes sense ... keep us posted - Given the loading I doubt there'll be a seat free (unless the flight is this week).

Will do - the flight is tomorrow! Also I should mention I was able to select 1A&1C if desired (earlier than T-80), but not 1D&1F (though all 4 seats were showing as blocked on EF). :)

So, my shadow was maintained on the BNE-AKL flight, but the last two seats in the cabin (including my shadow seat) were taken away by a QF staff travellers at the last minute (regognised the black QF crew bags, and they were dressed *way* more formally than the rest of the cabin). Further proof is that the shadow was still shown on boarding (along with a J2 loading - too late for any seats to be sold commercially).

I also had a shadow AKL-BNE, which was maintained (I was 2F again). A shadow was also given to a WP in front of me (spotted the Q-tag):

For further experimentation, I also played with my assigned seats for an upcoming BNE-ADL-PER-BNE JASA. I'm still officially in the system as PS, will be gold once the bonus SCs are credited for travel already taken, and have bookings in the system to qualify for WP by the end of the month (once bonus SCs are credited from the promo).

What I can select after confirming the new seat (despite the blocks shown on EF):

NOTES: What's interesting is that I had no shadow in 3F, but on moving to 1F, the existing block in 1D was maintained, and new blocks were added to 2D and 2F - so if the load is light, I can recline without worry! Not complaining at all. Loads currently are J6 C4 D3 I0 U3 :D

NOTES: New block added for 2C, no block entered into 3A for the pax sitting in 3C. Load is currently J6 C4 D1 I1.

PER-BNE
Before moving (I'm 4K):

Ater moving (I'm 3K):

Notes: new block added for 3J, blocks also added for 4J&K (perfect for me to recline), but at the same time, I'm not able to select 4J or 4K now (so the seats aren't in the system as unblocked just for me, whereas I'm able to select 3J). Also interesting the change in availability of 2E&F and 3A&B. Also, both before and after the change, I'm not able to select any of the available seats in row 5... perhaps a feature of the QF system to prevent a status pax from selecting a bad seat when there are better options available? Load is J9 C9 D2 I2.

I'll keep an eye on the blocks and see if they are removed closer to departure when OLCI opens.

*end of post* :) lol
