I flew BYO Brunei and picked up Grant's 1litre for A$22 so will get my allowence on way back bugger au.

I didnt think Brunei allowed booze on their flights (Islam rule) anyway $22 is too much to pay
for Grants.

Yes they don't have booze on board but will suppy you a glass ( which has now been changed to a plastic one!) and mixers. Where would you get a decent 1 lt. whisky for A$22 in Tassie? Knowing you lot in Hobart, you would brew yor own!!!

Buy your booze in Aus duty free (small 200mls) in separate sealed packages costs 50c per pack. Ie Mel to Brun (where you have to take all luggage off as well) finish it off and you can only take sealed packages back on. At Dubai you leave all on board and can buy from Dubai Duty free at better prices than Aus or UK. Cheers.

Be interesting to see if BNE gets competitive now that JR have opened up?

I thought Thai Domestic Whiskey cheap.
Just back from Philippines where a 750ml bottle will set you back 140 peso / 40 = AUD 3.50
Rougher brands and rum down to AUD $2.00. I understand Phil duty free shops are in trouble.
Bagged some upper market bottles, to stuff in my luggage.

Bargain of the trip was Thai miniature 3 inch handbags bought at street market on Ratchaprarop 3 for 100bt, topping up at shopalot in BB Plaza KL for bigger ones. Good 'cute' presents for giveaways.

I observed nothing really worth buying in KLIA2 with Cointreau RNG140 odd, although check in and speed was a breeze, except terminal P8 could be an 18 minute walk with upto 3 x-ray checkpoints to boot.
KLIA2 makes Suvarnabhumi look distinctly 3rd world and aged.

Leaving Singapore I noted inbound booze range was pathetic. At $1.16 odd, the exchange rate meant Singapore was bad value.

Australia inbound DF still had stupid 2 for one multi deals, so they again missed out 100% as I charged for the gates to get out - my time being more valuable. They still had tubes of Vegemite for more than woolies or Coles, which speaks heaps of uncompetitiveness. If they want to hose and devalue their monopoly, they are doing a good job at it.

Thus a thumbs down for DF on this trip.

Duty free in brisvegas still ridiculous despite JR opening. Wife bought some perfume that she loves and always finds it difficult to source but that was the limit of our 'shopping' .

Just had a day trip to Tallinn (from HEL). Went there and back on a fast cat. The Finns were bringing back heaps of df booze and cigs.

It is indeed. And everyone is saying dan Murphy's is cheaper than duty free stores making the purchase of any duty free alcohol pointless. Just wondering how that position applies to the example I've presented.

I haven't read all this thread and probably won't, but I agree. I find most spirits are cheaper at BNE arrivals than at DM's. I guess it comes down to knowing prices before travel and keeping an eye out at various outlets, both DF and non-DF. I've never seen value in buying wine DF and only ever once bought electronics (my Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones) which were bought for convenience rather than price (in fact I think I most likely paid more for them in DF than in stores), but I wanted them for that flight!

EDIT: I might also add, that I was able to negotiate a price reduction on the headphones at BNE departure DF.....10% I think it was, which I didn't think was the done thing in a DF airside shop!

Just had the best duty free deal ever(I think). Bought 1litre bottle Johnnie Walker double black inflight on Jetstar flight Singapore to Phnom Penh..$S46 but for some reason unknown to us we had 2 $S10 vouchers to use in flight for snacks or duty free so it only cost $S26! Don't think uncle dan will match that. Happy Father's Day.
