Points expiry : please Qantas, be fair

At least QF FF points have that 18 months. And the QF toolbar can keep your account open.
My fear is more so the SC side of things. That has a life of 12 months, and come your anniversary, they disappear quick smart. Only way to keep PS/SG/WP/P1, is that you need to amass the required SC a year to retain, and SC earns on partners have gone down a lot, unless you fly with a QF code on a airline partner, but what in your neck of the woods, there are no partners with the QF code.
Consider the SC side too. Otherwise stuck at NB for the time till you come back to Australia!
Edit: what do you guys and gals think, if QF brought in that circular thing they have for SCs, what about if they had something like that for FF points too. That would be a visual reminder of the points needed. I know the SC circle is grounded into my memory banks.
Seeing we no longer as a matter of course get paper QF FF statements, it shouldn't be too hard to change the QF website, eh? Wink, wink...!

There is LAN, TAM, AA and US available to the OP. All earn SC and points, and don't have to be QF code shares to do so.

Anyway, this is about points expiring, not SCs or maintaining status.

Back to the show folks...

Thank you for keeping the thread on-topic. ;)

Just this week AA sent me an email called "You earned them, don't lose them". Pretty easy to understand what that was about.

That is exactly the sort of thing I would love QF to do.

BTW, as per my original post, I simply transferred the kids points to my account, so they were not lost. But it was only sheer chance my wife read through the one-of-many newsletters that we noticed the problem.

It's their game and they set the rules. 18 months can be a bit rough with kids but QF are putting their foot down, fly with us or be punished. They need away of cleaning points off their books. You can be a LTG with a million points but no action in 18 months and the points are gone. The simple reality with QF or any airline is that they deliver the absolute minimum in service and value that they can get away with and charge the maximum that they can get away with. That's life in the big city!

I agree that is a poor warning. I don't remember the last time I opened a monthly newsletter. It's not like they contain anything exciting in them.

I am not sure a newsletter would be considered a warning as per the terms and conditions?
Even though the terms and conditions say that's where the notification is?
(c) Members who have opted to receive communications online and via email, will receive a notification within their monthly electronic newsletter.

I got an email from Sofitel today called something like "don't let your points expire".

I don't understand why QF has to be so coy about it.

After I lost my Hilton Honors points a couple of years ago I don't even bother to read their emails as I won't be staying with them. Too bad for them but we won't be back.
There have to be expiry rules for airlines but real warnings would have been appreciated by two of my friends

I suspect there are plenty of ways to generate points activity. EDR springs to mind. Leave a membership card with s relative or friend to swipe once per person per year ! I do that for my grandchildren.

That's a great idea at the moment but It might change in the future. There are rumours that the EDR/QFF points system will be changing at some point and you may have to wait until you get a certain number of points before you can transfer them direct to QFF.

And here's the e-mail I just received from United. Pretty clear!

Don't laugh. 1525 miles ... and every one earned!

Or the toolbar, easier and simpler as well as less expenditure!

Because better for them if they just disappear.

LOL true.. but I give them credit for a gorgeous 787 image :)
I have been fortunate/unfortunate enough to have flown the UA 787-8 several times (before they were first grounded with battery issues) and I was underwhelmed. The cabin feels *so* dated (thanks to the blues/greys that US airlines seem to love; AA have the same problem in their 738's).

There is so much that's important about a cabin interior, but an airline will sell the aircraft if they can, as s a differentiation from their competitors that it's a "new" and "game changing" thing.

Or place a Woolworths On-line shopping order or Cellarmasters oder for delivery to a relative back in Australia. Will need to exceed $30 and may incur delivery fee (free delivery is offered sometimes). But someone back home may appreciate a little hamper delivery for their birthday ;).
