Popped the Business Class Cherry on CX134 From Melbourne

Does anyone remember the story about the First Class passengers that demanded to be let off their LAX-MEL flight because there were no first class pyjamas on board? Now that is arrogant!

Yes and no. Although not defending those two, I do see a valid point of view where if an airline can't even sort out the pj's for a couple paying a ZILLION dollars for the fare, that same couple could get upset :)

Wow...
In my opinion everyone has a different set of expectations from travel and what we want.. I agree that rudeness to FA's is disgusting and I always go out of my way to not demand or even ask for too much and always help myself.. I'm also in my 20's and I guess what you could call attractive..??
Business Class is just like any other everyday situation, different types of people and attitudes...

I actually find the whole concept of constant chatter to strangers on planes a little odd, I love a good banter during boarding or at the business class bar, but only minimally...I like to think I'm a kind and friendly person but as someone who works in an industry that has me constantly talking (PR) having some peace is perfect.

It's also important to remember that some passengers who are on the larger scale book business class out of necessity due to the extra space ... As for the 'fat snob' comment, I'm not even gonna go there....:shock:

Seriously can't we stop talking about Bronwyn Bishop now she's resigned as speaker? :)

Lady Cool Cat & I, are flying for the first time in CX J on their new MAD > HKG service next year.... We'll try & be 'hip n cool' for the flight attendants.
I might just have to grow a beard & become a hipster..... That would rock the flight attendants socks off:)

I would rather the FAs (and all on board) kept their socks on, thank you.

A first-timer flying J making a broad sweeping statement about "J class behaviours" after seeing isolated instance(s) of "rudeness" which might have been ordinary for the premium cabin e.g. "asking for an espresso" now has his lopsided observation "most J passengers are rude and arrogant" elevated into the newsletter for all to discuss ???

He was entitled to make some observations about those particular pax but to draw sweeping statements from one (? 2) isolated instance such as ".... the type of snobs there are on Business Class.. wish they were more good looking...." and then followed up with a decision that he "might travel in Y next time" seemed hasty and premature.

He might be using a different dictionary than others as "most" does not refer to one or two out of 30s.

Reading this thread start to finish has me thinking the OP is actually trolling. Each of his responses always seem to stir the embers and start a new wave of reaction...

We have a 12yo and 18yo who fly business class with us all the time. Hubby and I are what you would call old and we are bigger than most. On our last trip LAX to BNE with Virgin one of the attendants even came to me and commented on what beautiful manners my children had. We travel business class whenever we can and our children are always with us. I haven't found people in business class rude at all. We are no snobs, I can tell you that. We travel bus. like it's been said before the convenience of being 1st on the plane 1st off and priority baggage and priority check in and immigration/customs plus the fact that the seats are more comfortable and larger than econ.

The last time I flew CX in J (HKG to SGN), I was the only person in the J cabin. I was the most polite, best looking and fittest passenger in the J cabin :)

I only read the first page of this thread so far, but since the OP was flying Cathay (which is my airline - I live in Hong Kong) I thought i would jump in. Cathay caters mainly to people from Hong Kong and Mainland China. You, I assume as you are on an Australian site flying to Melbourne, are Australian. You may be surprised to learn that different nationalities have different expectations of service staff. Hong Kongers and Mainlanders in particular believe that if they are paying for a good service (i.e. biz class) then they should get a good service. And Cathay believes it should provide good service, so actually there is nothing wrong with asking staff to help you with putting stuff in lockers - they are happy to oblige (and actually happy to help in Economy too). They are also very happy to get whatever drinks you ask for when the trolley is coming through - this is no biggie and completely normal, not like some "regimented" airlines where stuff has to happen in a certain order. And as to socialising - ffs get real. Many of the people fly business class because they are on business. They are there to get from point A to point B in a comfortable efficient manner and either rest or get some work done on the flight. I NEVER socialise on flights - irrespective of the class I fly - because I respect the privacy of the other people around me. The OP clearly does not so I hope I don't meet them on the flight.

Just came back from a trip to Taipei and had the privilege of flying Business Class on CX.
The service was amazing, attentive beautiful flight attendants, nice flat bed, entertainment system(hardly used anyway). The only thing missing is the energy of economy; there were a lot of snobby older people who didn't treat the flight attendants well eg. Demanding Espresso coffee in a snappy tone when the flight attendants were pushing trolleys, getting flight attendants to put bags into the overhead compartment when they could really use the excercise.

It was a great experience, but would probably not join business class again because most people are rude and arrogant . Wishing there were more down to earth, and there was a better energy on the flight I was on. Understand privacy, and people needing to relax; but there is no need to be so demanding.

But overall CX great service, really feel for your flight attendants and the type of snobs there are on Business Class, it wouldn't hurt for them to smile once in a while and socialise.

seems you hit a nerve with some fellow posters - if the shoe fits etc. I actually agree with your observations and its not as if I have only ever flown business once or twice. whilst it isn't pandemic there are some who do behave that way

Like JT's comments or not I respect JT for not reacting to some of the responses posted defending his position with good cheer. There as been some good banter and I am glad this thread has not descended to murky depths.

Personally I have been flying 50 years and I bemoan that passenger behaviour has changed in that time and that flying is now within easy reach of the masses so that aircraft are now mostly fully booked.

Your part (A) does not match your part (B) as the OP stated that "most people are rude and arrogant" [from a single J exposure].

"Most" is not the same as "some" IMO.

Oh dear! As an ageing older woman I travel, and pay, for Business for the extra assistance and privacy. I'm delighted if offered help to put my (not heavy) bag up, a smile and 'thank you' is just good manners.

i usually travel Emirates and they don't seem to use trolleys in the aisles any more, thank goodness

Snobby?! Puleese! Energy in the cabin I want peace not yapping voices.

Am I alone?

as a frequent flyer with 60 years experience all i can say is mostly business class passengers are polite, you get the occasional rude person but it seems more due to either tiredness or alcohol than anything else. You also get plenty of people in economy who are rude, i can remember a B/A Hong Kong -London flight where the passenger sitting behind us [English] had a huge argument as he insisted on putting his hat on the empty seat between my wife and me, the captain had to be called to make him see sense. the guy looked respectable and was in a business suit but could not accept the fact that we had more room than he did.
Best flight, the only passenger on a 160 seat plane going overseas, had 6 hostesses looking after me.

I fly business class to Malaysia once a year mainly because I am 6' tall & appreciate the extra room, no problems. When I fly economy the one thing that really gets up my nose is people who put their junk in MY overhead locker. Sorry to go off topic.

I have travelled significantly (42 years) in my employment, mostly long haul First and Business (now retired and a pensioner) and was fortunate enough to be able to carry this privilege through to private travel. My last 14 years before retiring averaged 260 days away from home and approx. 300,000km flying each year.

I too have seen the change in passenger attitudes to cabin and staff, this extends to everyday life also. Of course I don't travel as much now but when we do we try to do Business Class if we can because of the extra comfort and convenience (approaching 70). I have always found I could help old and young people get their bags up and down if I was in the position to do so, I also buy chocolates before boarding to give to the crew when I disembark. I enjoy the experience and in most cases its always pleasant from the crew and the fellow passengers.

Just came back from a trip to Rarotonga via Auckland travelling economy and on the legs out was amazed at the state of business class at the end of each sector. It looked like a train wreck each time. I find it difficult to accept people are so messy and inconsiderate of their personal and public space, but who am I to judge. Flew home Auckland to Melbourne up the front and everything was very nice.

I have flown business class many times and on the whole the people who travel business class are polite, quiet, keep to themselves. I think you are mistaking flying for a social club. Get a life. Your complaints are juvenile and show that obviously you do not have the class of your fellow business class companions.
Airline attendants are not overly sociable as in this day and age it is often misconstrued, especially by young single males. If you ask the flight attendants which cabin they would rather be in, the first is in First Class, then Business and the junior staff are usually in economy.

Hahaha. That is an exaggeration to say Y is paradise. The service is less amazing; however friendships with people are formed easier; perhaps it's because business travellers are too inundated with work to observe their surroundings?

Actually, as someone who travels in J a little bit (and F only Once) , generally speaking the seating arrangements dont allow for much by way of interaction between pax, I usually travel with Mrs GPH, she doesnt even like talking to me on the plane , let alone anyone else :-)

Your fine, your actually one of the ideal passengers! You mind your own business and are very zen.

It's those types that hand wave and cause a scene that I have observed that are my pet peeve; demanding ridiculous things and being disrespectful.

And their not from Mainland China, their actually Australians!!

Your fine? Their actually Australians?
