Posting in the Playground does not contribute to your personal post count!

I really don't care whether posts I have made in the playground count towards my total because I post on AFF because I hope that my opinions are worthy of reading, not because I want to recognised for the number of posts I have made but I do think that if the Playground is good enough to be included as a forum on it's own then the posts should be treated likewise and count towards a members tally.
That's my only comment on the issue.

There is a conflict here. I agree with the non-bolded part of the quote but the emboldened part has me concerned.

The Playground exists because people do want to post things on AFF which are not related to the main content of the site (usually with a much, much more social focus). This alone defines why the Playground forum exists.

If we removed the Playground because it doesn't count its postings towards the tallies of contributing members, for the reason that if posts aren't counted then the Playground should cease to be a forum, then there would be no where else for any kind of content which currently resides in the Playground (notwithstanding, perhaps, the Meetings and Socials forum and sub-forums, but even this only covers a subset of Playground things).

If everyone respected that they contribute to AFF to enrich it with its posts and not primarily per se to enhance their post count, then the fact that posts in the Playground do not count to member tallies should not phase people much if at all. (Although some people will fly to weird, wild and woolly places to rack up mileage, I don't think people just post in AFF in streaks and bounds to get high post counts.) Otherwise, the alternative would be no more Playground. I think most of us would not like to see this happen.

This will possibly upset people but...

It's a post count, fer crying out loud!

Does it actually matter for any real reason?

I was not going to post on this thread again but in the light of recent posts I feel that I should clarify my remarks.
The point I was trying to make, and it seems failed, because of the way I wrote it perhaps, was that I personally don't care whether my playground posts are counted towards my tally because I post in the hope that my opinions are considered worthy of being read and contribute something of value to the forum, however I could understand why some people would feel that their posts are somehow being treated as less worthy than others because they are now not being counted towards their tally.
At no stage did I suggest that the playground should not exist.

I guess I should apologise. My reply wasn't an attack on your point, nor did I wish to purport that (wrongfully) you implied that the Playground shouldn't exist.

Perhaps it was more a misunderstanding of the post you made, and I agree (judging by the comments made in this thread) that some people feel their contributions are being devalued due to this change. I personally can't understand the reasoning behind this conclusion, but so be it.

Like you, I'm taking an apathetic view to this change. So my post count dropped by a few hundred. Big loss  Now if that was my QFF point balance or SC count, then that's a whole different kettle of fish.

FWIW I feel odd and somewhat special that I'm one of the few AFF members to get the 2,000 post mark three times :o

Apology not required anat0l,:)
I have no problem with your previous post and I actually apologise to you if you were under the impression that I was offended by it,I completly accept the general thrust of your remarks and the last line of my post was not meant as a comment on your post,I just wanted to reinforce the fact that I do want the playground to continue and I'm not bothered by the change, unlike you however I can understand why some people would feel that their playground posts are being valued less highly than their posts on other AFF forums/threads.
I don't personally feel that way but could understand if others did, that's all I was trying to say in my first post.
For the record I have no idea how many posts I have lost but given that I had not reached the 1,000 post mark and still haven't it can't have been that many.
Cheers:)
