Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

South Australia is being let into the bubble because the Feds have now approved the arrival of 300 international students here. šŸ˜”. Meanwhile Aussies are stranded overseas. šŸ’°šŸ’°šŸ’°

Just a continuation of ongoing double standards:
Case 1. Australian citizen wants to visit dying relative with a couple weeks to go, or go to fathers funeral - DENIED
Case 2. Australian citizen wants to travel to UK with family and hangers-on for a job interview that could have been done via Zoom - APPROVED
Case 3. Australian citizen wants to travel to Italy to clean out an apartment that could have been organised remotely - APPROVED

Gee, I must have lead a sheltered life! I donā€™t know anyone whoā€™s been in the slammer!
Unless you have been in gaol, you wouldnā€™t likely be moving in those circles on the outside, to find out. Anyway, as most would not have had very happy memories of their gaol time, they are unlikely to bring it up in conversation

You may know some, but just didnā€™t ask the right questions. šŸ¤

Maybe you know someone who had ā€œbeen travellingā€ for a few years, or had been in ā€œ hospitalā€ for a long time. Or, maybe did their time some years back, before you met them, and havenā€™t been charged with new matters as yet.

Some suburbs have a high rate of ex-prisoners living in them. You may not live in one of those. Actually, ex-prisoners is probably not the right term, as some will be heading back in again, and again, due to the high rate of recidivism.

I too find that figure very hard to believe. That would mean almost 1 in 5 men have had prison time (92% of prisoners are male). I guess there are different groups of people that donā€™t necessarily mix so itā€™s conceivable that certain clicks see few and other a lot.

itā€™s going OT but are there references to the quoted figure?

....
Given that across Australia more than one person out of 10 has served a custodial sentence (jail time) - there is a significant group who actively live the belief that laws are only for other people - for these people their own outcomes over-rule everything else. Hold-on, sounds like they should become politicians....

I didnā€™t see the original post (above) but saw later responses.
Surely that figure cannot be correct. A misplaced decimal point, perhaps?
Could you give a reference, please, RAM.

Crossed with dajopā€™s post.
On the same track. :)

Funny term that someone came up with. (Travel) Bubble.

Bubbles are so easily broken. šŸ˜‰

For some reason RAM is privy to all sorts of information that can never be found in writing or accessed by anyone else. Like when it comes to the massive influx of foreign (worse still, non-Caucasian!) "close relatives".

Interesting, SA was fighting for it!
Yes, don't know what happened there.

The DPM has also made it explicit government policy that if your state do not agree to the Commonwealth definition of a hotspot you will be denied international travel.

Mr McCormack said in Canberra that any state or territory which agrees to the national definition of a COVID hotspot will be allowed to participate. Queensland and WA do not currently agree.

NSW and the NT only, SA misses out again

And why no Vic? If no hotel quarantine is needed, then no need to wait for the inquiry on the hotel quarantine program to make recommendations about hotel quarantine.

NZ are flying empty planes to MEL already to pick up AKL bound pax, and there may be some Australians in NZ those with family connections in MEL who would like to join them, even whilst in lockdown (hopefully slightly relaxed in just over 2 weeks time) I guess they can by just doing a domestic transfer at SYD.

Is National Cabinet on today? Do they even have a national/Federal definition yet? Using NSW/Sydney and Vic/Melbourne data, they might not even work out when something is no longer a hotspot....the number jump up and down.

They said that the Commonwealth is working on the budget for next week so cancelled National Cabinet.
It's not like there is anything pressing to discuss elsewhere.

The Commonwealth has proposed a model, and some states and territories have agreed to it. Therefore they get the international flights

Is it what was previously reported - 30 over 3 days To become a metro hotspot? And 9 over 3 days to become a regional hotspot?

Cancelled due to budget prep.

OK, so SA is apparently very close to opening to NZ as well and being a part of the bubble @Pushka will be pleased to know that Adelaide doesn't miss out :)

Mr McCormack said that travel arrangements would be expanded, saying states and territories that agreed to the Commonwealth's hotspot definition would be able to participate.

"South Australia are very close to agreeing to these terms and agreeing to be the next jurisdiction to come on board," he said, "They will be the next cab off the rank."

At least NZ people can do a trip NZ-NT-SA-Qld-NSW-NZ - no point going to Melbourne because of lockdown and Regional Vic because of SA/Vic and NSW/Vic border restrictions for non-border residents, though the latter may change in 2 weeks time when this starts to happen.
