The populist is simply playing his most obvious card, it is a good distraction from his own failings. If the quarantine hotel/system worked appropriately in WA it wouldn't matter where this person had been, when, or for how long. The Australian stated that the couple who brought Covid back into WA and due to hotel ventilation have created the latest issue. had been allowed to exit Australia to attend a wedding in India.

If the application was for urgent personal business ( major illness) then I don't see why the wedding would be disclosed by anyone as it's pretty much irrelevant and known only by the couple themselves. The populist is simply playing his most obvious card, it is a good distraction from his own failings. If the quarantine hotel/system worked appropriately in WA it wouldn't matter where this person had been, when, or for how long.
But I will play along with McGowan (or McClown has he has been annointed by some here, with justification) - what did the person concerned tell the Commonwealth government the purpose of their trip was?
If they said "attend a family wedding" then yes I would lay some blame at the foot of the feds.
If this person said "family member on death's door" and then turned out they attended a wedding - then that is obviously an entirely different story.
And yes we don't know their citizenship status. Can a non resident return once they've exited?
This! Exactly this! And not just in WA either. If the quarantine hotel/system worked appropriately in WA it wouldn't matter where this person had been, when, or for how long.
He has his family in Victoria so Likely he was simply regarded as a tourist in WA but not a tourist before Australia became a battle of state sectional interests. The bloke who got infected by the HQ leakage and wandered widely across Perth has been described in the media as a 'Chinese tourist'. Could it really be the case that a tourist is allowed entry or is it a media muddle?

If attending a wedding was the reason to leave and if one of the couple getting married wasn't terminally ill that would be a frustrating double standard to many who have been denied applications to attend weddings overseas of healthy immediate family members. People can say just watch a livestream but that can never be the same as actually being there for a once in a lifetime event that is never to be repeated that you have been looking forward to for many years. Some people have big families with weddings every few years but for others there may only be a few each generation. The Australian stated that the couple who brought Covid back into WA and due to hotel ventilation have created the latest issue. had been allowed to exit Australia to attend a wedding in India.
This also annoys me.How can a non resident also have permanent residency.Yes I know they can but to me it is plain ridiculous.yes - provided the non-resident holds citizenship or PR.
The thing that amuses me about the WA/melbourne guy is that he stayed in Perth for a few days after quarantine was over with a woman and they dined all over Perth.
Well yes exactly. Small families = weddings are few and far between. Additionally there are issues like visas, house purchases etc etc where being legally married is extremely important and timing is critical. Some people have big families with weddings every few years but for others there may only be a few each generation.
People can also say put off a wedding, but for how long? The government still refuses to say when they will reopen borders or partially relax restrictions. People can't put their lives on hold indefinitely with no promise as to when things will change.
And things like the biological clock if you want to have children. Telling e.g. someone who is 38 to wait to get married with no date in sight to go ahead would be cruel. The government has essentially required people to choose between getting married with their immediate family present or having children.Well yes exactly. You are right. He did nothing wrong.Hard not to feel sorry for the guy. Does nothing wrong, is infected due to a flawed institutional arrangement, and then gets to have his every move picked apart.
Australia has already lost so much of what it once was as a consequence of the pandemic.
You are right. He did nothing wrong.
For those dreaming of (more) bubbles. I really don't like when politics gets in the way of (m)any things.
Why Australia isn’t talking about a China travel bubble
China is the next obvious travel bubble given the economic upside and its low coronavirus case numbers but political tensions will get in the way.www.afr.com
Yes, Mrs FB was unable to attend her mother's funeral last year due to lockdown in the UK and Ireland and no way to get there. Streaming it was just weird. If attending a wedding was the reason to leave and if one of the couple getting married wasn't terminally ill that would be a frustrating double standard to many who have been denied applications to attend weddings overseas of healthy immediate family members. If you're a die hard footy fan with a club membership and your side makes the grand final for the first time in 50 years do you think oh I'll just watch it on TV or do you do everything you can to secure a ticket and attend the ground to experience live what could be a once in a lifetime event? How much more to attend the wedding of a family member.
