Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Or the simple thing that Taiwan does.keep watch on the phones GPS tracking. If you turned that function off or battery went flat you got a visit from the law.if found away from quarantine a fine of up to $US 10000 + an enforced quarantine in a local gaol.If an arriving traveller didn't have a phone they were given one for the duration of their satay.

Some may simply leave their phones at home when they sneak out ( though for millennials that would cause significant separation anxiety! )

In Singapore apparently from reports the authorities call the phone a couple times a day at random times and if you don't answer or can't take a selfie showing you in your room with current time and date, the police are dispatched.

I disagree sorry. The vast majority of Australian cases are from overseas returned travellers.
The vast majority of known local spread is from overseas returned travellers.
The Ruby Princess passengers were told to self isolate on return and we all know how well that worked out.
So no I don’t think Australian returned travellers should be given the choice to self isolate at a residential address.

I agree. Many people got pretty 'creative' when it came to interpreting the stage three lock-downs... 'not understanding' why certain activities weren't allowed, and so breaching the rules.

i suspect the same would apply for returning travellers.

That is now only used for those ordered into isolation from within the country.

Those arriving from overseas are now required to isolate in a hotel of the governments choosing (like Australia), at the government expense, if you left the country before 27 March, or at your own expense if you are returning after leaving the country from 27 March.

As NSW has recorded no community transmission for more than 1 week now, I wonder whether the time has come for Queensland to consider opening their borders by July, so to push the country into Step 3 and open up Australia to NZ (and other countries) again.

That means until this is resolved, all mainland Chinese going from the US to China (and vice versa) would have to go via some independent country such as Hong Kong,
I hope HK still not let the mainlanders use HK as transit point... cause of COVID 19 could still be there in mainland and can still infect HK public

But in Taiwan you got 2 phone calls a day at any time.If you didn't answer the phone the police arrived. If you were not there the same punishment as being caught out,Pun intended.
If you were now at the designated place you were given a warning and told if it happened again an arrest would be made.

The reality is that the official count of COVID-19 cases in China is very low, and Hong Kong Government, which is still pro-Peking, is poised to open the borders with Canton Province and Macau hopefully sometime soon.

I wonder whether this is something that Australia can follow, alternatively those on quarantine are required to wear some sort of GPS tracking device to make sure they are at home, this will spare our hotel capacity to open up domestic travel demand, as well as saving taxpayers money.

Can we believe the mainland Chinese on anything, including the claimed number of virus cases and fatalities? Some who've researched the matter have alleged that there's a significant coverup that's ongoing.

Those numbers could not be believed at the first place... thats why i said there it could still be out there

So in that case the UK may as well not have quarantine? Self-isolation at home is fine when it kicks in on June 8. As mentioned previously you're still allowed to go out and get food, you're still allowed to get public transport home etc. Both are discouraged, but "if you have no other choice it's OK".

If that's the case, surely it's a case of why even bother having quarantine measures as based on that logic it just makes no difference and infections will continue? This is of course somewhat of a rhetorical question.....

That's what Hong Kong people doesn't want the borders to reopen at this stage, because we worry that the government in mainland China is covering up what is important.

At the initial stage of Coronavirus, there were several Hong Kong media who went to Wuhan to look at what the virus looked like and they were kicked out of the hospital, being arrested in a police station and have the tapes deleted as the result.

So I would say mainland China cannot be trusted, instead it should be bullied and marginalised by the world, to punish their cover up of COVID-19, which ends up with us unable to travel overseas to see our loved ones and stuck here in Australia.

Malaysia has moved onto a user pay model this month.
I think it would be a worthwhile model to work towards.

As I understand it, Malaysian citizens get 50% subsidy, and foreigners pay the whole amount.
For the two weeks, it is only something like 700 bucks.

That wouldn't get you a caravan park slot in Australia ;) Ah, third world countries and their labour rates....

'We are not going to be bullied by Scott Morrison': Border war reignites
By Lydia Lynch and Toby Crockford
Southerners hoping to come to Queensland to escape the cold winter months will have about 10 days' notice before the borders reopen.
Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the border closure would be reviewed at the end of June and "the decisions of that review will be implemented, I think, about a week and a half after that".
His comments came after Prime Minister Scott Morrison pressured the state government into committing to a July reopening date.
"When we set out the three-stop process together, July was when interstate travel was supposed to be up and running again," he told 2GB Radio.
"If they leave it to announcing it in July, it means that people who might book a holiday for July, will have already booked it somewhere else.
"They may be booking it in New Zealand if they're not careful."
Mr Miles said the state was not prepared to reopen Queensland if southern states were not on top of the virus spread.
"We are not going to be bullied by Scott Morrison into putting the lives of Queenslanders at risk," he said.

So seems to me that it is likely that we might see the State border to Queensland reopen sometime in mid-July, and hopefully that will be followed by other states so that we can have our school holidays up in Queensland and Trans-Tasman Travel bubble at the same time.

I am really concerned with the timeline of the Trans-Tasman Travel Bubble, especially only a successful bubble will mean that we will be able to start travelling back to Asia.

I have no idea why the UK is having such a quarantine.
Can’t understand it all actually.
This applies to my understanding of pretty much all of the UK Govt response to Covid-19 so far.
Horses, stables etc aside
