Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

The NHS vaccine certification is accepted - that’s what it means.

My NHS app has my certification ready to show as needed.

I’d be shocked if the U.K. didn’t make it. Easiest country in the world to verify records (everything done through a single provider - NHS) and same vaccines as Aus - imagine what saying no to AZ, Pfizer or moderna would do to you domestically.

Well yeh that may be true, however, the bigger issue for you, me and others in the UK now is the absolute ridiculousness of the fact that we cannot really travel anywhere. And if we are going to Australia, to avoid a 10-day quarantine on the way back, we have to fly direct (not available now or anytime soon) or fly through Singapore only.

Vaccines clearly work, however, those of us living in Australia/UK continue to suffer, even if we are fully jabbed while the rest of the world moves on. It's pathetic.

Matt Hancock has been got to by SAGE, that’s for sure. But I think it will move soon - take comfort from the fact we have one of the most genuinely libertarian governments around atm. I am more worried about the Aussie side of things than the British!

There are many countries with lots of travel restrictions in place. Singapore certainly has. Heck if we travel anywhere other than a list of 4 countries we face 21 days quarantine in a hotel. 10 days would be a breeze (especially if it is at home - like it is for the Amber countries). Most of Asia has strict restrictions in place, so UK/Australia are far from alone.

I understand about the issues re quarantine on return and am fine with that. Heck that’s happening now in SA for returning travellers from Victoria. But the issue here is that you are allowed out and given that choice!

Yes, yes, I think we all know that by now! But I was responding to hb13 lumped UK & Australia together .. "the bigger issue for you, me and others in the UK now is the absolute ridiculousness of the fact that we cannot really travel anywhere.". The difference between UK and Australia is reflected in the fact that for travel out of Australia it would be "e fact that we cannot really travel anywhere."

The fact is, compared to Australia, the UK can travel anywhere (like we can from Singapore, like NZ'ers can etc, which is different to Australia), just that there are consequences on return. Also it's not true to the rest of the world are moving on (suggesting Australia and UK are the only ones with entry restrictions), many countries do (Singapore, NZ, Fiji, China, Malaysia, Vietnam to name but a few). Australia seems to be the only one with exit restrictions though.

Sort of, although the rollout via NHS in Scotland has been quite a bit different.

I thought we had a libertarian government, but clearly not. Did you hear that the scientific advise was to make Malta green, as well as other islands and keep Portugal green and Hancock, Gove and Patel blocked it?

We are now just as bad as the Australian government and summer is vanishing before our eyes here in the UK.

They must have moved the info to the page that MelMel mentioned. I do recall the link working when I clicked on it so considering the date of the tweet the site must have been updated very recently.

What I'm hearing is that if the vaccine is WHO approved, you're fine. So no issues with AZ

WHO has only been approving vaccines for emmergency use, Im not aware that they have fully approved any? Noting that the WHO approval threshold is low at 50% efficiacy (to widen what COvax can provide to developing world), it is highly likely that many countries wont recognise all those emmergency use approved vaccines as qualifying for entry long term. I cant see USA being keen to recogise the Chinese vaccines.

Yes. The other issue is Scotland and their ridiculous restrictions & them not wanting to have too much divergence between the two states.

let’s see what happens on June 21 - strong sense it’ll be pushed back to July 5. If it’s any longer than that there will be riots. I hope that international travel is not the price we pay for domestic unlocking.

International travel is even more important to British airlines than it is to Australian ones. With Britain so close to Europe geographically a much higher percentage of travel there is international. I do hope that both the UK can and Australia can safely open up before too long.

Yeh this is spot on. I for one am desperate for the UK/Aus to safely open up before too long, but hope is literally dying. For a start - as most of us located in the UK can attest, the travel situation here is an absolute s$$$-show. I have no hope of anything happening travel wise for UK or Aus residents in 2021.

The ridiculous thing is that we have extremely highly effective vaccines, and they have been given in advanced numbers here in the UK, yet travel this year looks completely impossible.

Can I clarify please? Australian citizen, living overseas for 10 months and fly to Australia (quarantine for 2 weeks), 2 weeks visiting relatives, then exit back to overseas. Exemption to exit needed?

Technically, no. The people I know who have done this haven't applied for an exemption.

But IIRC there was a report above that someone had to spend a bit of extra time at the airport to confirm their eligibility to leave.

I seem to recall reading that they had to ask for and speak to a supervisor at check-in. The check-in agents need to call Border Force and clear it with them before they can issue a boarding pass.

Interestingly I have been corresponding with a Federal Member about the Travel ban and exemptions and inconsistencies. He stated today that everyone requires an exemption. Even in the situation described above. I have sought clarification from him and referred him to the ABF website.
