Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

On a slightly different tangent, when the travel ban is lifted - what will happen to children under 12 who cannot get the vaccine? Will they be allowed to travel and if so mandatory quarantine on return, even if parents are fully vaccinated? can't find anything to confirm they will be exempted or not.
I would think that's probably a problem for Phase 4 or perhaps Phase 3. There's a lot to do before getting to that.

Interesting

The reason I ask is that Mr Morrison has, in the past, talked about "family reunions"

These would more often than not involve children under 12, one would assume.

I dont think there will be any issue with 12 years and under non vaccinated children for either travel, entry or insurance.

The prime Minister's kids are over 12, so no he probably didn't assume that at all.

The USA will likely have an approved vaccine for 5-11s before we even have one approved for 12-15s.

We will likely see travel open for adults before children so they can gather data re home iso for vaccinated people etc

At the moment the only vaccine you usually have to show proof of to travel is Yellow Fever, and that can be given from 9 months so we don't have an easy comparison point wrt child travel and related insurance.

I'm guessing clues would be how in how jurisdictions such as The UK / USA have handled under 12 travel. I'm suspecting in the UK children weren't exempted from PCR or equivalent testing pre-departure and pre-return - we might do something similar here?

Family in UK are home testing with the 12 year old very frequently.

If I was a travel insurer, I'd carve them out. I think you are right re: entry/exit - and I assume a covid test prior to travel will be required for everyone, including children. This is why I wouldn't insure them if I was running a travel ins company (something I know nothing about so take this with a grain of salt)- if a 6 year old tests positive, and thus cannot return home until not positive, think about all the expenses associated with such a change of plans that would have to be covered. No way will an insurer take on something that has such a high probability of happening relative to other things.

Basically it's a mess.... with the F word before mess.

Sounds like it will be easier for those with children to welcome vaccinated grandparents to Oz, rather than visiting abroad.

Can all the talk about vaccines, sports events etc. not happen in here? I thought this thread was about when international flights may resume again. Perhaps I'm inept and cannot read, silly me.

But we all know that the issue of kids and vaccinations is relevant for overseas travel to resume for families.

But it's not a prediction. There is a thread for vaccination talk.
Well I did predict that vaccination won’t be an issue for those whom are currently not approved for vaccination 😆

July 2022, for fully vaccinated Australians, to all relatively safe countries with COVID and vaccinations under control (think no India nor South America), immediate test on arrival back into Australia (some kind on instant airport saliva test - not shoved up your nose) + home quarantine for 7 days. This for a further 6 months to end of 2022 when switches to no quarantine.

I could run with that scenario.

I guess...but another missed northern hemisphere ski season (said tongue in cheek - this isn't about skiing)- that was going to be combined with a family visit in the USA. This was our Jan 2021 plan which was obviously put on ice - thankfully, cancelled while in planning & coordination phase with my Seattle-based family. My kids will hardly know their USA grandparents (my parents) which is the most painful part of this.
