Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Ever pause to think that's the type of attitude that got Sydney to where it is.

Oh, I'm doing essential shopping - oops I just infected Bunnings/Coles/Woolworths.
Oh, I'm doing exercise with my family - in a small park with 10s of other families with the same idea.
Oh, I'm only speeding little bit, I won't kill anyone/myself.
Oh, I'm vaccinated, the rules don't apply to me.
Oh, I'm vaccinated, I should be in home quarantine, if I just pop over to say hi someone, I am very low risk of spreading covid.

That last point is very true :)

We can count the returning Paras out for a while. Their games don’t start until 24th August. Has the Government mentioned that?
They have to return within a couple of days after their competition ends. So likely many returning by 26 August.

That fits in well with slowly, slowly I guess. Is SA sending a big contingent of Paras? I haven’t seen much about the scale of the SA trial.

I suspect it is part a 'feel good' gesture and most will be ADF. I read somewhere? Of 100 people.

While Dylan Alcott (now 2-time Wimbledon champion 🏆🏆) was vaccinated in Australia, I think his next stop is the Olympics and not sure what his plans is after that - so perhaps he might be in the trial even though I think he resides in Victoria.

Off-topic - Go Ash Barty 🎾🏆

If I have read correctly, home quarantine is for Australians vaccinated in Australia.
How will it help stranded overseas vaccinated (with Australian approved vaccines) Australian avail of this?
More available rooms in Hotel quarantine for them then?

I think that is the idea, yes.

To be frank at this stage home quarantine is largely a thought bubble, it will undoubtedly evolve over time. But probably correct for now in that it’s easier to prove (and harder to fake) local vaccination!

It's just a trial at this point. Home quarantine being more than just a trial is likely at best case around the end of the year (and quite possibly not till next year some time) providing some time for them to try to get linkage with international databases to verify overseas vaccination status.

Even once they do more than just a trial they will probably want to start off with limited numbers and scale up and until it's open to large numbers, vaccination in Australia is probably sufficient. It'd mean that those getting exemptions to leave Australia hopefully would no longer be delaying those overseas already being able to return.

Question being how long until home quarantine for fully vaccinated Aussies converts to no quarantine on return from overseas leisure holidays

Quarantine free trip for me next year if i went to Wimbledon to watch Ash Barty defend her title?

I am hoping for after Aussies have been offered the vaccine and likely soon after the federal election.

Hopefully sooner rather than later. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to home quarantine until a negative PCR test result (assuming a quick turnaround time) as a stopgap measure on the way to no quarantine.

I agree. I'm even happy to stay 1-3 days in a hotel waiting for a PCR test result. Fully vaxxe Aussies need to be able to come home now.

Now would logically be the best time to allow home quarantine in Sydney actually - get put in hotel until Day 2 test comes back and if negative - home quarantine for rest of period. At the moment getting 1-5 cases a day in overseas arrivals - but bet most of those are picked up in Day 2 testing. But if 1-2 day slip through … what’s the risk in the context of the hundreds of cases who are already in the community being trusted to self isolate at home? With lockdown - risks are reduced further.

But of course it might be logical but politically impossible and of course a distraction when so many resources and the attention of decision makers is needed to fight the outbreak.

As the fully vaccinated rate increases one would expect opinion to shift. Once fully vaccinated more and more will struggle to see any justification for why they are not allowed to travel when fully vaccinated people overseas can.

It'll all happen, we'll be flying O/S again, next year for sure, but which month nobody knows & under what exact conditions & return conditions nobody knows.
I suggest just sit tight & not worry about it on a daily basis.
Then again it's good to hear people's views on it, to a degree.

We know this 1st round of vax don't do that much, their good, but in years to come, the yearly booster shot will be so much better in prevention etc. It's only Vax1.0
It's all ok.
