Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

For somewhat ‘challenged’ states like WA who have very poor healthcare infrastructure in general and poor covid management tools - I agree… I honestly cannot see them opening to for example NSW if NSW has 500 cases a day and they still only have the odd couple, even when we are all at 80%.

I just don’t believe it will happen.

Exactly this. The goal posts will change. 80% is an extremely difficult goal to reach, but once we are there - I'm not confident that anything will change.

Because Australia painted itself into Complacency Corner...
It’s not just government either, it runs to to bottom. My wife is very frustrated with her employer right now which is still muddling on in the same way as 12 months ago and not really doing anything to recognise the massive amount of extra effort that’s gone into the last year and more (we’re not talking money here, just some recognition and praise from the boss).

She came to me last night and suggested she apply for a job in Barcelona. The grass may not be greener but it would be different.

I’m really interested in the census results to see exactly how much smaller Australia has become.

There would be mutiny in the streets post our special 'May 2022' date, considering USA and Europe and parts of Asia will be fully open with max crowds and tourists everywhere.

Meanwhile we'll be at 70% vaccinated and in Lockdowns avoiding one more death.

Even McGowan would be lynched if mid 2022 Bali (AKA Perth's far northern weekend suburb) is pumping with European tourists.

One would hope so! However, the WA public have been fawning over him its hard to see how they would turn on their beloved leader

Plenty of those Complacent on this forum, who insist our Fed Government has done a good job despite all evidence to the contrary.

I think it's a bit more subtle than that.

We are where we are with the Fed government, and we have to cut the cloth accordingly. Just because they mucked up the vaccine roll out doesn't give a free pass to let covid loose in society, or demand that we can't wait another couple months until we reach 70%.

Acknowledging that lockdowns are the most appropriate action in the given circumstance does not equal saying the government has done a good job!

Secondly, is it 80% of adults or over 12's? Because I haven't seen them clearly state that. And if they have stated it, goal posts are almost certain to be moved to an altogether different pitch.
If you chose to not research, well good luck to you.

It's been so clearly stated in so many articles & stated by the PM in the original & follow up pressers that the 80% is for 16+ yo's & won't change.

Now if you say, oh well they can move the goal posts anytime, then you may aswell believe nothing, read nothing & just keep complaining, we gotta follow our strengths.

Agree but then decisions on lockdown don’t lie with Fed government anyway so why would this equate?

If we'd all been vaccinated by now based on the original targets - we wouldn't be having lockdowns. But I think it applies equally to any policy by state or Fed government - we can't base policy on 'woulda coulda shoulda', it has to be based on where we are at now.

Maybe North Korean rule should be bought in for WA, and this is legit North Korean law as I understand:

Framed pictures of the North Korean three leaders are to be displayed in living room on the wall of every home, and are subject to special police inspections to ensure displayed, cleaned and all shiny like. If there is a fire or evacuation, the three pictures are the first (and only items if necessary for evacuation) citizens can take aside from their children.

Just the one picture of Mark McGowan would be required in WA homes.

PS - Although moved out of WA in 2009, still half consider myself born & bred in WA.

Just to pull you up - I don't think any Australian Government plan - or vaccine order had us as 80% eligible vaccinated by today's date.

You're right - I think it was 100% - of those who wanted it - by September?? 😷
Well that should be achievable considering first doses of AZ were available for all adults in time to be fully vaccinated by the end of next month.

Even more achievable if no one wanted it - which a certain proportion didn't want for a time before Sydney's outbreak took full hold.

OK, agree with that bit but at heart we should have had much higher vaccine rates by now and even now some states are still lagging. Maybe to misquote Paul Keating this was the outbreak we needed to have in NSW., will we need the same in other states for people to finally see sense?

Sadly I think NSW issues might be enough to keep everyone going. Just got to stop our SA Premier telling us 'he will keep us safe' with border controls. The rider should be - 'with vaccination'. But I guess that is giving more credit to Feds than his own sense of control with the border. Clearly 'border closure' is going to be the buzz word for elections for the foreseeable future. Who have thought Australia would come to this.
