Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Things are changing rapidly here. Covid Zero is not possible.
In fact the Chief Medical Officer Prof Paul Kelly gave a press conference today saying pretty much exactly that.
The recalcitrant state premiers and CHO will have to come along with it.
We are vaccinating here at a gathering pace as our cases increase. We will be living with Covid.

Don’t be disheartened and don’t believe everything that the likes of Latika Bourke etc writes.

I agree with you completely. I just hope you're right about things rapidly changing. Australia needs to open the borders up and do it soon. The WA and QLD premiers need to be forced to do it if they're not willing. This has gone on for too long.

Good luck. For myself it’s nearly two years since I saw my Mum and Dad in the UK. As soon as I see an opening, even a glimpse of one I’m going.

I hope you can see your parents soon. I'm in the UK and haven't seen my parents or any family in almost two years.

Like you, I'll be on the first plane if home quarantine or reduced quarantine is allowed for fully jabbed people.

Baby steps

The first South Australian travellers will serve their mandatory quarantine at home using sophisticated electronic monitoring, under a landmark national trial launching this week.
National cabinet has authorised the state government to run a pilot scheme to allow up to 50 interstate or overseas travellers to avoid having to isolate in medi-hotels.

The Home Quarantine SA program, which if successful will be rolled out across the country, uses pioneering geolocation and live facial recognition technology through a person’s wi-fi.

What happens when the NBN drops out or someone’s wifi router crashes or it doesn’t cover their whole house and they go out of range?

I'd imagine there would be a back up system. Like a home visit.

This is awesome, I will take them.

Well the PM said "You know, I want Australia to get to Christmas, but I want everybody around that table at Christmas time."

For some families including mine to have everyone around the table would require either outbound international travel to be allowed before Christmas or inbound travel with a 110% guarantee that home quarantine would be allowed in all cases.
He doesn’t mean people outside Australia, silly - he’s talking about real Australians!

zero chance that home quarantine will be allowed at Christmas. My money is on (and this is BEST CASE) some kind of fudge allowing eg Singapore travellers home quarantine just before the tennis starts in January to justify letting that circus coming to town. But it’ll be limited and a “Phase 2 trial” and the airfares associated with it wil probably be eleventy million dollars and it won’t include locations like the plague ridden UK.

I think Aussies are totally over it but (probably rightly) the focus is on not being in lockdown & resolving the state border chaos first and foremost.

Real Australians are also outside of AU.

I had a 5 min cry yesterday after a 30 min talk with Seat Son. I really empathise @Flashback.
We had a call from daughter/granddaughter on Friday. Granddaughter (9) was in tears because she has not seen us in person since 9/19, and all her friends are off visiting grandies locally in UK or taking holidays with them in Europe. Home monitoring seems a small price to pay if it enables us to go.

Just announced. It is starting THIS WEEK in SA. At this stage only for vaccinated SA residents.

I'm with you on this, nearly 2.5 years for me, Easter 2019. Had April 2020 trip cancelled. Had my dads 80th birthday over zoom 😔
They keep saying they'll come over this coming Easter but I think there'll be more chance of me going there
