Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Please let the deity of your choice ensure that the trial proceeds perfectly.
….governments never introduce a trial without a predetermined outcome in mind (remember we in Victoria had the collective amnesia-fest last year inquiring into hotel quarantine)… can’t believe I’m hoping that will happen here…

So I just heard a grab from SA Premier. He stated that the Med Hotels worked well while numbers were controlled but as we open up and the health risks of Covid reduced, through vaccination, that they need a different strategy to deal with higher numbers of travellers. SA has not asked for funding for a purpose built med hotel centre.

Though here in QLD it is still the majority feeling.Talking to a few employees in hospitality on our recent short trip out west then Hayman Island they were very happy that the NSW border was closed.
Given that most their customers are from Victoria and NSW, that’s a pretty strange attitude. I guess unemployment appeals to them.

You’re right @MARTINE. So I hope they have already decided that it works to have Home Quarantine, not that Home Quarantine is a failure.

I found a pretty decent ANA business fare to london for Christmas today, doesn’t do anything about the Qantas interest free savings plan, wondering about a speculative booking. We’ll be over 80% by then?

A couple of dinners in Tokyo might be pushing it, though.
Is it on one of the retrofitted 77Ws with the Room? I'm dying to try that out.

I hope it works out for you in any event!

Scott Morrison has reiterated today that we have to learn to live with the virus. He’s saying the right things, but it remains to be seen how he will react once the vaccine targets are reached if states at that point seek to reneg on their promise to the Australian people to reopen.

As noted elsewhere, we don’t actually need all states to hit their target for other states to open up. Can’t confidently comment as to how people will react but imagine those in open states will be happier than those that don’t and some pressure will come on the premiers in question from their own citizens.

Sock it to em Scomo. The only positive thing he has done recently is pressing living with the virus. Only hope he keeps it up.

yes I must say in line with the last few posters above, I too feel like we might just have turned a little bit of a corner with many state and federal pollies coming out recently firmly in support of opening up at 70% and more at 80%. Also the growing emphasis on living with the virus. Such a different mood than poor Jane Hrdlicka encountered with her accurate but ill-timed comments earlier this year.

I am starting to feel like my proposed trip to Japan in February 2023 might possibly just happen, and that assuming my by then 2.5 year old granddaughter is vaccinated or able to travel, the family will be reunited. It will be over 3 years at that point.

February 2023! I hope to have gone overseas at least once, maybe twice well before then. Still hoping for a miracle in time for Christmas 2021.
Oh yes I would like to go earlier too - and I will be on a jet to Dubai just as soon as it can be managed. But the only trip I actually have booked is Japan 2023.

Yes words words words. I want to hear how he’s going to convince / penalise / force rogue states to comply.

Have you really booked a trip for 2023? I always found that I couldn't book a flight more than something like 11 months out.

Its called $$$ - unfortunately WA has heaps of mining $$$

I'm guess wait until the majority of states get to 80% - there might be enough carrots/sticks without needing to add to it.

Yep, and I guess that means they'll be at the front lines of the Chinese weaning themselves off our ore.

Playing devils advocate here but WA hasn't received any federal disaster payments from the feds for any of its lockdowns or funding since job keep / seeker ended but the mining dollars keep rolling in both the fed and state government.

Of course that can change a moments notice.
