Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

The Brisbane restrictions end on Saturday.
But why did they start.Tasmania only restricts you if you have been to the listed high risk establishments not the whole LGAs.Of course Saturday is the day the last of the high risk premises come off QLD's list.Is it too much for SA border agents to be able to look up the list rather than block the LGAs.By the way the Brisbane LGA has a population a bit over 1.25 million and an area >1300 sq kms.So it's population is not that far off all of SA.
And after the first cases virtually all subsequent cases have been in isolation.

More ‘promises’ - what I gather from this is go where you like, but plan you last 14 days at a bubble

Until they release what will happen on return it all seems rather pointless.

I am inclined to be satisfied for now. Having booked to UK for March, I expect some period of home quarantine when I return. Hopefully in the 5-7 days, but will do 14 if that is still in place (which I doubt as flying in/out of SYD). I understand those heading out in Dec/Jan might want a little more certainty, but doubt they will get it until a week or two after 80% double dose reached.

Yes that's all good. Happy to do 14 days in home isolation but having to come into Adelaide as first stop means our options are much more limited.

Well it is crystal clear and it has been published that AT 80%, travel would be allowed and home quarantine would be occurring, which means certainty should come at least a few weeks before that (at some point near 60 - 70%).

If we are at 80% and we still don't know exactly what the procedure will be, quarantine length, arrangements etc, then clearly they were never serious about it. And if that is true, I would imagine your March trip is in a lot of jeopardy.

I do think (hope) we will get a lot more before we even hit 70% - however, once we are at high vax rates (above 65%), that will be the real test to see what plans may be - and hopefully they are made clear early on.

Dont trust bubbles in any way. They pop. Hopinh for 7 day home quarantine, but hopeful thinking as after NT hits 80% I will still need to home quarantine for 14 days if I visit Sydney or Melbourne, which are very safe and low COVID compared to UK or USA. Only difference is if test on departure and arrival, that may give additional comfort + feds pushing hard to open up

Yes, I feel your frustration. But bear in mind two different things are in play. Firstly hitting the vaccine mark, and secondly dealing with the no travel order which is in place until mid-December. So 80% triggers the the national plan step. But then the order under the Biosecurity Act will have to be amended. It is clear that there will be ongoing requirements around vaccination status, to replace the prohibition on travel. I have the sense that there is still quite a bit to play out.

Queensland Premier is quite aggressive this morning in her daily press conference after copping a barrage from the media about 80% plan and in particular international travel.

She is pushing the idea that international travel is dead, nobody is travelling, airports are ghost towns. Based on her time in Tokyo.

A bit disingenuous considering she was in Tokyo during a major outbreak and the Olympics.

Agree with you that there are multiple ducks to line up – at two levels of government and the industry – before outbound international travel is able to be confirmed and actually happen. There is a least a credible commitment to it in some quarters, which didn’t seem to be there until quite recently.

hb13 is right of course that it’s supposed to be triggered at 80% not after 80% (as part of the suite of Phase C measures so lots to roll out simultaneously) though none of us will be hugely surprised if there is delay either because enabling systems aren’t quite ready or because of some political impediment. It doesn’t help, to put it mildly, that states & territories are going to meet the 70% & 80% thresholds at very different points but the working assumption still is (isn’t it?) that the first jurisdictions at 80% will be able to restart outbound travel, in a limited way initially, once national 80% is reached, which will be very soon afterwards.

There is impeccable logic in the point that hb13 makes about more information about international travel being provided publicly in advance of 80% being reached. But an even earlier indicator ought to be government confirmation of the Phase B amendments to inbound international travel at 70%: this has gone ominously quiet despite that 70% point being achievable in not much more than a month – as I’ve commented in another post a few days ago.

I tend to agree that your March 2022 plans look safe, given what we think we know now, but we may not have anything like certainty until much nearer the implementation dates for unrestricted outbound and less restricted inbound travel.

I think at 80% at the very least they should allow uncapped international arrivals of vaccinated Australians and allow anyone that can prove they intend to be away for at least 3 months for any reason to depart. Hopefully they will go a lot further than that and allow people to depart for any length of time as well.

I notice recently there have been a number of QF flights with regular flight numbers eg 9/10 London and to/from Hong Kong, Narita and Shanghai. Could be others I have not noticed. Plus there appear more scheduled (FR24).
Any info whether these are QF "commercial", or government charters?

VIC will allow fully vaccinated Victorians to return home from Sydney if willing to do 14 days of home quarantine.

I guess it's only a matter of time till they go a step further and do a trial of home quarantine for International arrivals. Unfortunately they are not using the home quarantine for those returning from interstate as an opportunity to trial what home quarantine for international arrivals will look like.

Given Vic has 700+ cases a day it's pretty scrappy concession. Vaccinated and pre-entry test with no quarantine should be acceptable. I suspect Andrews' is still secretly chasing Covid zero
