Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Of South Australians born overseas in Non-English speaking countries, India represents the largest group so id imagine lots of people will be happy about the direct flight. Delhi airport is actually pretty nice, certainly better than some of our terminals.

Sure there is obviously a market. Just not a route I'd hope to be the first and only one after so many years. And not one I'd be using. Selfish motive only.

But is it the first after so many years? Does it count as a route or just a refuelling stop 🤣 :p ? Especially given it is not operating in the other direction ....

Interesting. It does come here from Melbourne then direct to Delhi. So maybe Melbourne is the refuelling stop?😅

And even then

Will I still have to self-isolate?

Yes, even fully vaccinated New Zealanders returning from overseas will need to self-isolate for seven days. You’ll need to take a Covid-19 test on arrival and another before entering the community.

NZ is closed to Aussies until at least 30 April, 2022. NZ citizens can return from Australia to NZ without MIQ (but with 7 days home quarantine) from January 17: New Zealand reopening with Aus revealed

Seems like they are still trying to eliminate rather than learning to live with the virus.
Time for Australia to remind NZ of the CER treaty.

You’d have to question why NZ even bothered with a vaccination program. The benefit of vaccination will be well and truly falling by April.

The UK has put South Africa on its Red List.
“Flights from South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini and Zimbabwe will be suspended in the UK from midday on Friday and all six countries will be added to the country’s red list, UK health secretary Sajid Javid has said.”

The Irish Times

I wonder if Australia will follow ?
We don’t (yet) have a Red List

Perhaps these passengers will be required to go into Med Hotel quarantine regardless of their vaccination status. It sets a precedent if we start blocking countries but on the other hand the UK sees fit to do it so it's likely for us to follow.

Son's wedding reception next year in June in UK has several South African guests as that's where the Bride (of 1 year) and her mother were born.

It’s 10 days Hotel Quarantine in the UK and you can only enter from a Red list country if you are a British National or permanent resident.

I imagine this will all be over long before June.

Travelling to the UK next week. Hope things stay open so I can come back to Australia when scheduled.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
Have a great trip, keep us posted of your transitioning etc. Exciting times.

We'll miss the daily detailed %% updates.

cheers

Well done. It will all go well. Enjoy visiting the family. And you must do a Trip Report. 😉😂

If an AUs Citizen or PR you will always be able to come back.
I'm an Australian citizen. But if they bring back the travel ban and hotel quarantine caps it could take a while to get back. Though if I had let concerns about that stop me booking a trip I could wait indefinitely to book something.

That's a good idea.

Seems to be not a lot of point for those any more for VIC at least now that VIC is at 90%.
