Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I feel sorry for a friends 12y.o. daughter called Isis.

If only 12 then the parents chose the name a good 9 years after Isis became widely known as a terrorist group, seems like a poor decision.

Yes. Another story I guess...

Going OT, but got to stick up for kelvedon's friends! As the name ISIS didn't really come to prominence until 2010's, so I wouldn't classify that as a poor decision by the parents. Wikipedia suggests that name wasn't adopted until 2013.
In April 2013, having expanded into Syria, the group adopted the name ad-Dawlah al-Islāmiyah fī 'l-ʿIrāq wa-sh-Shām (الدولة الإسلامية في العراق والشام‎). As al-Shām is a region often compared with the Levant or Greater Syria, the group's name has been variously translated as "Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham",[131] "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria"[132] (both abbreviated as ISIS), or "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (abbreviated as ISIL).[101]

FYI for those heading to Europe

Well it looks like Wednesday 15th December 2021 is the magic date. I wonder who won the prediction?

the government announced in late November it was delaying the plan to reopen Australia to international skilled and student cohorts, as well as humanitarian, working, holidaymaker and provisional family visa holders, from 1 December until 15 December.

That “pause” also included reopening to travellers from Japan and South Korea. It was to gather more information about the Omicron variant. As it stood, the Australian border was “already closed to travellers except fully vaccinated Australian citizens, permanent residents and immediate family, as well as fully vaccinated green lane travellers from New Zealand and Singapore and limited exemptions...

while it’s not a fully fledged opening as that’s yet to be determined, it’s still a moment for celebration !

Actually no such things exists "from Singapore" per se. Entry is allowed only for Singapore citizens. So a UK citizen, for example who is a PR in Singapore and has been in the country for the duration of the pandemic is not allowed to enter Australia, but a Singapore citizen who pops into Singapore for a day after travelling from UK under VTL, can come to Australia.

(nb: The converse is not true, anyone who's fully vaxxed and has spent 14 days in Australia can travel to Singapore, irrespective of nationality, visa permitting where they are required for certain passports).

Given all the caveats not sure we can really claim the 15th as the date.

A bit of glass half full, glass half empty going on here. My daughter has been hanging out for visa holders to be admitted, as a number of staff from her firm left AU during the pandemic and are chaffing at the bit to return. She is glass half full about it all.

Yes, I'd agree its a step in the right direction but in my view its still only one step.

News reports are suggesting that the 72 hour isolation for intl arrivals ends in NSW tomorrow. Can’t seem to find anything to back it up though

That would be right, a fine piece of expensive silliness that was. Just goes to show that no jurisdiction has immunity from knee jerk reactions.
