Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Son, DIL and toddler grandson left for UK last night. The parents had their third vaccination last week. They will need it. Now need to check on son and other DIL in UK have lined up for theirs. DIL is good about that and son who hates needles seems to be coping with it. All the family in UK for Christmas now. I think their risks will be the Christmas Mass, and the flight from Manchester to Doha.
Their biggest risk will be getting through MAN security. It's the worst I've experienced anywhere in the world.

Good to see Do Not Travel warnings have been dropped for Southern Africa. Was a pointless knee jerk reaction, but rectified fairly quickly.

When does the 72h quarantine get dropped? If I return from LAX having been tested before departure, I'm probably safer that most people milling around circular quay.

Anyone think there’s a possibility of borders being shut for international departures and arrivals for Aussies given the recent spike in cases in NSW? I’ve got a trip departing for Abu Dhabi in January 15 and then onwards to Oman and Jordan and now getting nervous as I have no idea if this trip will be cancelled or if aussies will be deemed an at risk country and banned from entering other countries. Thankfully I’ve booked on points so can cancel and push it back a few months if I need to.

I’d expect no given they’ve already re-allowed those banned African countries and we need students and workers.

I can't see a logical reason why our borders would close. We've reached equilibrium with the rest of the world now, there's no going back.

For most destinations we present no greater risk - so UK, US, EU etc should all be fine. Not sure specifically about the wider Middle East, but UAE will go broke if they lock out the world again.

Highly doubtful anything is going to shut now... (Postivive thinking cap on).

This may well be how the pandemic ends, a more transmissable variant, appears so far to be milder, if you have had a recent vaccine they all provide excellent protection against serious illness as far as we can tell with the data to hand....

It might actually be a blessing....

QF launches YVR in two days time....not sure how long it will last.
Canadians have been asked to avoid non essential travel with potential for further measures expected.

Leaving for UK next week talk about bad timing. My Paris leg looks goneski with France banning all non-essential travel from the UK. Seven days out I am trying hard not to pull the pin...

Well, resuming…

Once again we're in a ridiculous situation where there are 2200 new cases in NSW and 1500 new cases in Vic, and the demons are those coming from overseas .. should just be test on arrival and isolate until negative test results are received. The 72 hrs made little sense before (given you don't need to test again to be leave isolation, only on Day 1) and , even less sense given the surge in locally acquired cases.

It depends how hospitalisations etc. go, but a post Christmas / New Year lockdown here in the UK does seem a possibility.

A little more detail from ABC blog:

"New South Wales and Victoria will both scrap their 72-hour isolation requirement for international arrivals from next week.

From Tuesday, all fully vaccinated international travellers and flight crew will be required to get a PCR test within 24 hours of landing.

They'll still be required to produce a negative pre-departure test within three days of arrival, as well as on day six in New South Wales or between day five and seven in Victoria.

Hotel quarantine remains in place for travellers who are not vaccinated."

NSW and Vic Premiers have bene collaborating on recent announcements, but dont either really care too much about what this means for those travelling onward to the doona states, as those states continue to set their own course which exceeds the national plan guidelines.
