Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Um so they are referring to the test taken wihhin 72 hours of departure? No worries.

It's not just an Australian state thing. We have people enroute to Australia and the timelines for these 72 hr tests are a bit of a nightmare when you have multiple stops. They just arrived in Istanbul where they were fortunate that the tests they had done in Paris a few days earlier were just within the 72 hr window.

They are due to arrive in Melbourne on Monday evening so do they still need to isolate for three days? Almost got to hope their flight is a few hours late.

For coming in to Aust the test timeline is no more than 72 hours before departure from first point on itinerary.

Contrast the ABF border declaration form which is between 7 days and 72 hours of departure of flight to AUS, although sky doesn't fall if you're late. cheers skip

The isolation conditions no longer apply from Tuesday onwards. So anyone in isolation on Monday night is alllowed our on Tuesday , irrespective of when they went into isolation (for us, just arriving now we will be released about 22 hrs early I think.

However there is still the need to test within 24 hrs of arrival and isolate until negative results received - which could be another 24 hrs after the test is taken, apparently due to high number of tests they are taking some time.

(Although if willing to pay, and it is open after arrival, Histopath at the airport have much quicker turnaround.).

I am following Australian news all day for a full year now but can't find anything about when they possibly would open up to other countries? Will this only be talked in the next National cabinet in feb? We have tickets for Feb 27th from Belgium, through DOH. It is starting to look really bad :(

Here’s a website to get you started:

Unfortunately, nobody knows at this point. If you qualify as an eligible visa holder, you can already come now. Otherwise, the government hasn't announced anything yet. :(

meanwhile, welcome to AFF, @Belgian_Packer . Long may you post!

there are some FB groups which have endlessly discussed this and other visa/exemption issues. I recommend ‘Australian Travel & Exemption Support’.

Its very poor form. Frustratingly, it’s quite hard to get back from Southern Africa despite the restrictions being lifted as many airlines are still restricting transits. This is despite still accepting transits from Europe.

Singapore pauses quarantine-free travel
"Singapore will freeze the sale of tickets for arriving flights and buses under its quarantine-free travel program for four weeks from tomorrow, the government said, citing the risk from the fast-spreading Omicron COVID-19 variant.

Under the vaccinated travel lane (VTL) program, Singapore allows quarantine-free entry for fully vaccinated travellers arriving on designated flights and buses from about two dozen countries including Australia, India, Malaysia, Britain and the United States."

As much as I love flying Singapore Airlines, I plan to travel to Europe twice in 2022 and going out of my way to avoid flying via Singapore. They are more jittery than some states in Australia I won't care to mention.

Despite having stacks of domestic covid. They’re not HKG.

Facebook post yesterday about Histopath testing at SYD Departures

‼️Word of Warning for anyone who is planning to do the PCR test at Sydney Airport before you fly! ‼️
I turned up at the airport 5 hours before my flight, there was a huge queue although it moved pretty fast took around 55 minutes to queue to get the test.
Test results are supposed to be within 1.5 hours, ours took 2.5 hours and we only just managed to check in 30 mins before the gate closed. There was people there who had missed their flights as they didn’t get their results in time, some had been waiting 4+ hours, it was awful, people crying.
So please be prepared and get there really early if you can. I did speak to one of the workers and she said it’s the busiest it’s ever been it has never been like this before. I can only imagine it will get worse as more people are starting to travel.

Needs to be some kind of worldwide consensus on this testing rubbish. If you're fully vaxxed that should be it.

But we can't even get to a consensus in this country because of politics so....🤷🏻

This evening I went to Histopath at BNE for my pre flight PCR test (flying on Friday). There was a 7pm and 11pm flight scheduled so I went at 6pm as the 7pms were already done and the 11pms weren't there yet. It worked out really well, not a soul about. Had pre-registered, went straight in. Result in 40 mins. They printed me 2 certificates, 1 for each passport. Staff were very friendly. People started arriving for their tests while I was waiting but no queue, maybe there would've been a bit later. The airport was like something out of a zombie movie, so strange.
My flight, leaving in 50 hours was already showing on the departures board! Still have another day of work to go yet!20211222_180812.jpg20211222_181016.jpg
