Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Agree. Having all been through a journey with pretty much everyone here experiencing family separation for so long, not knowing when it was going to end, it's such a pleasure to read of the reunions starting to happen. Mine will take a few months yet but it will happen now.
We’re still months away from ours.

I haven’t seen my parents for two years but that’s about to change later today.
They don’t know it so I hope they are home ☺️
Good luck! This reminded me of my own story. I surprised Mum by flying from London to Melbourne once - she wasn't home! Turned in to quite the odyssey. I had to reveal my hand to Dad in Perth, who told me she'd gone to the football.

Walked to the MCG but it was the 4th quarter so no ticket sales. Managed to get a ticket off someone who was leaving as Dad told me where she was sitting, but she wasn't there. I had to ask strangers if a middle aged woman was sitting near them...turns out someone remembered, but she had already left the ground! Called Dad again and found out she went to Crown for dinner...at that point I'd been awake for 40 something hours and just called her myself and asked what she was doing for dinner. We had a nice meal :).

You and your folks are going to remember today for a long time!

My sister-in-law flew out on SQ222 tonight, a few hours late flying on from SIN to FRA and on to BRE for Christmas with her dad. Balanced the risk of Covid against the risk of her dad not being there next year (over 90yo). Should arrive late Christmas Eve.

Well, we had some nice news this morning. Son who lives in South England managed to catch up with other son, his wife and my two year old grandson who are visiting his wife’s parents in The Wirral Apparently lock down is imminent in UK and as son and family are returning to Oz post Christmas he thought it was now or never. A long day but a wonderful one.

Don‘t agree that lockdown is imminent here in the UK. Not sure where they got that idea from.

its good news here today:

He’s very cautious and given they are only in UK for 3 weeks then why take the risk of not seeing them again for 18 months. Carpe diem.

Yes, said it back in Oct/Nov and it still applies. Definite travel when you can (assuming you are happy with the prevailing covid restrictions, and have leave). Never know when things take a turn for the worse. Its been the learning from the first series of State border back in the covid zero days

This testing is getting insane… international travel simply won’t rebound until it’s dropped. Currently in a probably 5 hour line for a paid Histopath test. Have driven to three clinics that have signs stating “temporarily closed” with disinterested staff simply shrugging their shoulders when asked what temporary is. Calling their number simply provides a recorded voice stating “your call has been terminated due to high volume”.

Who even knows when the results will come back? I suspect I’ll spend my Xmas afternoon at the international terminal getting a 90 min test within 24 hours of departure.

No-ones scared of catching COVID, everyone's scared of getting pinged on a plane and put into 14 days quarantine, or if cathcing COVID, being stuck in said state (let alone country) for another 14 days not knowing where to go or what to do.

Yep… some “pandemic” hey

Here's an observation about inbound international travel. After arriving in Vic from overseas you need to take a test on Day 1 and again Day 5-7. After Day 1 it's test and isolate until you receive negative result, and that is clear. No such requirement exists for Day 5-7 test, but when you actually get the test they tell you to isolate until you get results. I think they're following the script - makes sense for those who are symptomatic or who've been to exposure site locally. But if you're from overseas, have done your Day 1 test, doesn't make any sense at all. I just followed the rules for inbound international travel instead.

Correct. Instead, just follow common sense.
A lot of rules they created are ridiculous, especially when there is conflict for International arrival and local domestic regulations:
rules they produce is so freaking that following them feels impossible.
Like if you arrived on International flight to SYD and transfer immediately to domestic flight to BNE it's fine, but if you left airport confinements - you already dimmed higher risk and have to HQ on arrival to QLD) This is while every one else arrived on the same flight with you from Sydney are free to go.🤦‍♂️
And given they don't have any ability to track if you left airport or not any way....
