Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Cove was pretty much on the mark.
Yet to be proven.

I’m sure I posted upthread that plague circulated continuously in Europe for something like 375 years. 1665 was just a particularly bad year.

My plans for end of April to mid May:
CGK-IST-ZRH with a couple of days in the city plus a trip to Liechtenstein.
ZRH-BLQ then drive down to Rimini and the Adriatic coast, with a trip up to San Marino.
VCE-ATH-LCA for some relaxation on Cyprus.
LCA-ATH / ATH-IST-CGK
😀✈️🚅🚘 ⛳ 🏌️‍♂️

But due to the Covid rules, what I’ll actually do is probably go to Bali. Or not be allowed to go anywhere because the omicron wave will just be finishing up…😭☹️

BUT, as I’m sitting here in day two of Covid positive iso 😷 I’ll be a ‘recovered’ person then so normal rules clearly don’t apply (🎾…) and I can go wherever!

It’s all so confusing.

I invite people to go back and read the first few pages of this thread.

We were all so wrong with our "Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted" with even the most pessimistic having everything back to normal (what's that any more) by now.

To be fair the first few pages were in April 2020... we really didn't know much then.

The departure bans - which I think were the key angst? - were lifted by Christmas 2021. It's likely that anyone with a compelling need to visit a particular country can now do so.

I still stand by my comments from when all of this started. International travel will not actually recover at all. By the time countries allow it, and with the restrictions that it will have, there simply will not be any airlines left standing.

Still premature to assess the veracity of this comment, but a few airlines have already folded since April 2020.

My plans are firming up for March.

Flying MEL-SIN-IST on SQ. Then travelling on to Spain, possibly Croatia, then UK and Ireland. Then QR DUB-DOH-MEL.

Testing requirements for the entire trip are currently the following;
1) Supervised RAT to satisfy SQ transit
2) PCR or Supervised RAT to enter Australia.

Pick your destinations carefully, be flexible, as long as things don't melt down with COVID any further (and I doubt they will from here) then things are becoming easier. Only the long hauls are booked for now, internal stuff can wait until closer in - again, flexibility.
Oh that’s excellent!! I’m on QR to LHR in March and thought they required a PCR for transit. Fabulous news that they don’t.

Just wondering if anyone had any more news/info on RATs for entry to Aus - can these be self-administered Video supervised RAT tests?

As per the links above they need to be performed at clinics eg at airports by trained personnel and documents signed by them.

I guess the question is; how would they know? All the travel tests I’ve received have digital signatures and are emailed to you so unless it specifically says “we watched it via video” then I’d hazard a guess that the checkin staff won’t know the difference.

Oh he's back flying. He does great reports.
First flight in two years apparently. Flying to Sri Lanka via Singapore. He is flying in economy however 😱 so might not help some AFFers 😂

Wow, I just got a preview of my upcoming trip to IST on the same plane also in economy! The BNE-SIN flight looked pretty empty although he says SIN-CMB was full.

In the context of the question the actual test can be supervised remotely over video.
  • that the specimen for the test was collected, and the test was carried out by or under the supervision of and, signed by an authorised person (see below).
Here's the current Information.
