This promo shot for Bali Tourism will go down in history as the worst of COVID New Normal Tourism. Absolutely embarrassing and ridiculous. Face mask on a vacant beach. View attachment 272140
An acquaintance who has returned from bali after quite a few years running a business there says it is like a ghost town. So many small businesses and large just shut and boarded up.

I’ll see if I remember to take a picture there in a week.

On the promo picture: they’re just complying with current Indonesian restrictions due to the omicron wave. Yes masks are required outside. Based on the seething mass of humanity that is Indonesia, I’m sure the rules weren’t written to consider a nearly deserted beach.

With even the bluest of blue US states removing mask mandates, not to mention most of Europe,I don’t know why anyone would holiday somewhere that still required masks - especially outside.

Yes, I had to wear masks outside in Malta over Xmas/NY and it sucked.

I actually don’t really care. It wouldn’t put me off going to a destination if I had to wear a mask everywhere. I guess I’m probably used to it at work. In fact I’m still wearing P2 masks indoors in NSW now.
We had to wear them everywhere in Italy including outdoors and it didn’t affect our enjoyment at all.

I think you’re in the minority with that viewpoint - all power to you though!

I would gladly do the entire DRW-LHR flight without wearing a mask once if it were permitted.

If they want international travel to get back to previous levels removing the mask mandate from flying will be an important step.

There's an easy way to get around that anyway, just ensure your beverage of choice is always topped up.

I suspect mask discomfort on long haul travel for most people is a purely a state of mind.( except those with breathing difficulties) A bit like economy travel. If you go into a flight thinking it's going to be uncomfortable, well, der, it will be. I've done a number of 7 hr fully masked flights during the pandemic (and several of those pre-vax with clear wrap around glasses as well) and too be honest, completely forgot that I was wearing a mask. And if you're on a full flight in economy it is the absolute least of your discomfort worries.

Put it this way, price and safety considerations being equal, if I could go on a carrier with 32" pitch, nine across on a 777 but had to wear a mask, or a carrier with 31" pitch and 10 across on a 777 but no mask, I would take the former every single time. Of course may feel different in business.

I have no difficulty wearing a mask for a few hours but it is always a relief to take it off.
What really gets to me that today in Brisbane I must wear a mask in shops and the hotel but on Friday the science magically changes and masks not necessary.

Fridays are generally quite magical ... I look forward to them regularly :)

I've done a few 40-44 hour multi sector transits and got used to the mask. No more outrageous than clothes in hot weather. Mrs Pineapple rather annoyed that she is pushed towards no mask on Friday. Cheers skip

Interesting watching the current Amazing Race. It started in Feb 2020 then on the third episode it was closed down. They were in Glasgow. 19 months later it resumed (September 2021?) In Switzerland. Obviously they won't be heading into anywhere Asia and Australia. All Covid safe. Social distancing. No masks though except crowded indoors - eg chairlift tonight. Chartered planes and buses. No public transport.
