Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Would a close contact take her out? If she does her test, it’s negative, isn’t she good to go?
It's a tricky one in SA. Close contacts have to isolate for 7 - maybe 10 days here even if testing negative throughout. She's concerned her partners kids will test positive. Honestly I'd go but she's here on a visa and can't risk 'breaking the law' or she could be refused re entry.

Yeah that’s a tough one. The rules of the day are so hard to keep up with that I really don’t know what one is meant to do. I guess it’s easier in NSW with close contact basically being a thing of the past.

I’m going to get a Medicare PCR on the way to the airport next week. By the time I get the result, I’ll be out of the country. As dumb as it sounds, positive is the best result. It allows me to easily do a quick tele-health consult and get a clearance certificate without having to navigate foreign doctors.

So not overseas travel related but have just heard of more stupidity in SA.

We have close contacts and school contacts in SA. As a close contact if you've been in 15 minutes contact and mask less with person who later tests positive you are required to isolate for 7 days as long as you no longer have contact with that person, if you are vaccinated. Unless you've have covid within last three months in which case no isolation. School contacts - no need to do anything even if it's the kid you spend 8 hours with maskless unless you subsequently get symptoms and test positive of course.

So our EA had covid 6 weeks ago. Her non vaccinated son has had daily texts as his classmates test positive. He doesn't have to do anything unless he gets symptoms.

Today she learnt they both had contact with someone who tested positive the next day. But not at school. So son has to isolate for 14 days. So she's been told. But have also read it's 7 so 🤷‍♀️They both need two Covid tests. Even though at school he's had multiple friends test positive and didn't have to isolate. She doesn't have to isolate because she recently had covid but she has to stay with her son and home school.

Who dreams up that cough? 🤡🤪

Really? What was wrong with it? I stayed a couple of years ago and it was fine.
I think it’s just run down because there hasn’t been regular updates to, well, everything.
Many issues probably Covid related, but the impression it gives off is that this hotel is trying to do everything on the cheap.
- hand sanitiser feels thick and sticky, ie: feels cheap and nasty.
- musty smells in corridor, room and closet.
- aircon doesn’t really work well (can’t cool the room below 26deg during the afternoon)
- bath towel has stains on it
- breakfast is being individually plated out in the kitchen so you can’t really choose what you want.
- water ‘gallon’ bottle in the gym is empty.
- iron in the room leaked something sticky onto my clothes, so I had to wash them.

For a cheap price and if it was just for a quick overnight stop, it’s probably fine.

Eeewh!🤮

There’s no way they can tell if anyone is a close contact of anyone these days so I would just ignore.
Some kind souls run to SA Health who then ask for close contact details. Or dined at a restaurant or even a health place where QR check in still exist. And SA Health still make themselves relevant in such cases. We've pretty much told everyone that if they test positive after we've been with them then let us know but make us accountable ourselves, like we did in the 'old days' and isolate and test on our own merits.

It's pretty much irrelevant given my son must have been positive on a Qatar International flight and Qantas flight back into Adelaide back in January and we didn't hear a thing about impact on those planes. It's so random it's useless.

That cheap sanistiser is the pits! Our local Aus Post had it, it was so slimy most people didn't use it after the first visit :(

On a visit to Harris Farm in Albury I used the sanitiser at the entry. It was so sticky I couldn't continue touching anything so returned to the entry for a 2nd look. Turns out it was soap and there was a not so obvious tap and sink nearby. 🤣:)

I literally did the same on the weekend at the same place!

So I was looking at a side trip to Amsterdam and the requirement to enter includes a vaccination certificate.

The requirement is for an EU cert, or one from 35 non-EU countries participating in the EU scheme.

Australia is not on the list. New Zealand is.

The description says vaccine certificates of those 35 countries will be recognised by the EU, and v.v., those 35 countries will recognise the EU equivalent.

Now even if Australia recognises the EU certificate unilaterally (I dunno if they do or not?)- the fact that an EU government website indicates EU certificates are not on a reciprocal list for Australia must at least deter some tourists from coming?

It would seem a pretty easy step for Australia to take to improve its desirability as a destination.

Australia already recognises overseas vaccines

No issue coming to Oz, outbound yes im sure lots of people are put off by the European certificate requirements

Side trip from where? If arriving from outside the Schengen zone, a paper copy of
your Oz vax certificate is supposed to allow you onto a plane.

The issue from a tourism perspective is not whether Australia *actually* allows non-EU certificates, but rather that the EU is saying their certificates are recognised by 35 participating countries, of which Australia is not on the list.

If you were looking at coming down under, would you bother checking the AU govt site as well as the EU's? Or just look elsewhere, like NZ?

Absolutely! Checking entry requirement for any country is best done via official Gov info - doubly especially anyone trying to go to NZ - that could end in tears…

As an aside, I’ve notice some of the local watering holes suddenly very busy again with Brit & Irish expats. It dawned on me that they didn’t waste a second getting back here once the borders reopened.

Bet the ones on the East Coast are asking for a weather refund

Yes as soon as backpackers were allowed in last year in Launceston hospital we had 4 take jobs within the first week. They told their mates it was good and when I left 11 days ago there were nearly 20 Irish medicos now with locum jobs at LGH. I thought they were going to take over the place. All that i talked to were going to stay for 1 -2 years taking jobs around Australia. We need them.

Where would you rather be in a European winter (yeh I know winter is finished but weather is still not great)!

Based on the sheer number of people around you wouldn't know there was a pandemic at IST. Place is absolutely heaving - and the cafes/restaurants are doing a good trade at typically inflated airport prices :)

The sniffles and coughs are noticeable. But mask wearing generally very good, Who could say no to this fellow anyway?
