Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Ready For Takeoff
Dan Andrews has just confirmed on Breakfast TV that VIC is ditching Hotel Quarantine for fully vaccinated travelers. Some form of shortened home quarantine and eventually moving to no quarantine.
Not as good as what Sydney is proposing but provided there are flights it is still a significant positive step. He needs to set a date for international travel to resume ASAP.

The lack of detail is concerning. Just the other day they implied international travellers can enter VIC via NSW without home quarantine, and now they want to do home quarantine for passengers flying directly into VIC? Does this means they will go back and won't allow international travellers to fly from SYD-MEL immediately after their international flight?

Hahahaha. Once again, how good is dom perrottet

Time will tell...he has started off ok but how will he go when back up against the wall?

Things are changing daily right now so who knows what will happen by Thursday, next Monday, etc.

Amazing that I booked my trip for December thinking I would be the test case but only a few weeks later travel has moved from Dec 19 to Nov 1...

Well they have recognised Sinovac.

But there is a difference between recognizing and approving. So whilst the Feds are recognizing Sinovac and allowing travel, NSW stated in their press conference they are only only allowing those who have had vaccines approved for use in Australia to by pass HQ. So Sinovac recipients will be allowed to enter the country, but NSW at least they wont allow them to go straight into the community, they will need to go to HQ.

There would be a LOT of people who are vaxxed with non TGA vaccines overseas who want to come to Australia. Far excess of 210/week I would think. So for these guys even though they have done the right thing, there will a massive waiting list.

Also its 210/week across ALL airlines. So is each airline going to have one flight per week for unvaxxed? And how do the airlines coordinate so that across all airlines, they do not book more than 210?

This will be a massive headache for the airlines.

One hopes the airlines do not just give up and say TGA approved vaccines onboard only.
Totally agree it has just become a lot harder for me to return home.

Completely agree. The Victorian Government need to get their act together and announce arrangements ASAP so that there is no confusion at the NSW-Vic border on 1 November when people start arriving from overseas.

I think the biggest issue for Dan is that he doesn't want it to look like his hand has been forced by his counterpart north of the Murray. Which it has. My hope is that worst case we Victorians will be looking at a test and release scheme as opposed to any significant time at home. Can you imagine the political capital that the Coalition at both state and federal level would make if Victorians had to travel to Sydney to greet family members from overseas at the airport whilst Tullamarine stood idle?

I'm watching this topic with interest as my parents in the UK are keen to come here in Janaury but any significant home quaratine would make the trip unfeasible.

That’s incorrect. They will not be required to go into HQ with Sinovac.
Sinovac is recognized by the TGA as appropriate vaccination and NSW Health has updated their info for Nov 1st.

Well, that would have to be a given though. He's hardly likely to say that quarantine will be here forever. Any form of quarantine is death to tourism.

It's pretty normal. If you put out details, someone might hold you to them.

You forget about the automated machine gun towers.

Dan would not have backed off at all, unless he'd been forced to by the NSW example. I suspect that there might be some adverse polling results coming in...

Wonder when that backflip happened because the media reports last week all said Approved not Recognized and only listed the 4 approved vaccines. I find it sad our hand has been forced to accept poorer performing vaccines.

I guess if we start to see clusters around those who have had recognized vaccines, TGA will need to back track on that recognition.

poorer performing vaccines.

I find that a bit offensive for those people who by no fault of their own were forced to get these vaccines and cannot enter Australia.

Every WHO approved vaccine needs to be recognized. No more discrimination.

Besides, its only a matter of time until Sinopharm and Sputnik V is recognized because a lot of international students are vaccinated with these overseas.

Vic will move to the same rules it’s pretty clear - they just will need a few days to get through some more vaccination milestones, they have really good momentum still even on first doses.

Or maybe we could base the decisions on the peer reviewed effectiveness of the vaccines not the WHO which is clearly politically compromised.

Even if they turn out to be poorly performing, what's the solution where only these vaccines are given overseas?

Considering that airlines are only allowing TGA recognized vaccines on board, that means people from these 'poorly performing vaccines' can never enter Australia...

Did not know we had become such a discriminatory nation.

Every country has the right to protect its own citizens so calling this 'discriminatory' is a bit of a long shot in my opinion. I believe even Sputnik and Sinovac will be accepted and it's perfectly acceptable to not accept vaccines with even more doubtful efficacy profiles (or non peer reviewed data).

Also- there's limited data but from what we know, cross vaccinations with different brands are not causing any issues (if any, there's growing evidence that it might even be beneficial). So if you must so badly enter Australia and have the means to do so, then surely you'll have budget to obtain two shots of Pfizer or Moderna, even if privately.

On a more practical note, I would imagine the bigger concern is how are you going to check the authenticity of the vaccine, good luck trying to get a common standard for vaccine certificate going globally anytime soon.

You can bet people will look for ways around vaccination requirement once they figure out which country has the weakest link in terms of vaccination certificate. Unlike a passport, you don't need to be a citizen of that country to be vaccinated.

Our hand hasn’t been forced. NSW Health would always follow the TGA vaccines that are recognized by them as the individual being fully vaccinated wherever in the world that was.
We shouldn’t have a two tier system
Pfizer/AZ/Moderna/JJ to home
Sinovac to hotel
The wording on the Govt press release was inaccurate to start with most likely.
