On a more practical note, I would imagine the bigger concern is how are you going to check the authenticity of the vaccine, good luck trying to get a common standard for vaccine certificate going globally anytime soon.

You can bet people will look for ways around vaccination requirement once they figure out which country has the weakest link in terms of vaccination certificate. Unlike a passport, you don't need to be a citizen of that country to be vaccinated.

With high vaccination rates in NSW and VIC if a few people find a way around the system that should not be a big issue. If the hospitals are not overwhelmed, then there should be no reason to restrict the movement of vaccinated people travelling internationally any more than happened pre-COVID.

Foreigners that travel here with a fraudulent vaccination certificate would likely be violating their travel insurance policy. I think few would see that as worth the risk.

So Dan in his press interview (defending keeping quarantine) said NSW is doing a trial of home quarantine now.

Whilst technically correct, a bit misleading to leave out the fact the trial has already led to a determination that it’s too resource intensive to implement en masse which is why they are going with no quarantine.

Every country has the right to protect its own citizens so calling this 'discriminatory' is a bit of a long shot in my opinion. I believe even Sputnik and Sinovac will be accepted and it's perfectly acceptable to not accept vaccines with even more doubtful efficacy profiles (or non peer reviewed data).

Also- there's limited data but from what we know, cross vaccinations with different brands are not causing any issues (if any, there's growing evidence that it might even be beneficial). So if you must so badly enter Australia and have the means to do so, then surely you'll have budget to obtain two shots of Pfizer or Moderna, even if privately.

Would they really need two shots? If people have had two shots of a vaccine with lower efficacy than our local choices, it might be that a single Moderna or similar booster might be enough. What do the medicos think?

But there is a difference between recognizing and approving. So whilst the Feds are recognizing Sinovac and allowing travel, NSW stated in their press conference they are only only allowing those who have had vaccines approved for use in Australia to by pass HQ. So Sinovac recipients will be allowed to enter the country, but NSW at least they wont allow them to go straight into the community, they will need to go to HQ.

It has already been decided that vaccines recognised by the TGA will be recognised as appropriate for assessing vaccination status.Moot point as will mainly apply to foreign citizens and a few expats in places where the approved vaccines couldn't easily be obtained.With the vaccine certificate issue now being apparently solved this issue will be on the agenda.

As each day passes and things become clearer and the "price match" policy of VIC/NSW keeps happening...I feel more tempted to write a letter as a resident of Victoria to the Premier of NSW thanking him for forcing Andrews and co to relent and let us out of the perpetual lockdown, curfew, and genuine feeling of no hope for months and months on end. And now we're talking about overseas holidays!! Thank you Dom indeed...

VIC will reach 70% fully vaccinated later this week and 80% around the end of October/early November. So if we follow NSW's lead a few weeks later would be mid-November for resuming international travel. That's probably the best case for VIC. If Dan is more cautious we could be looking at early December when the vaccination rates will hopefully have pushed up to around 90%.

Was having my lunch near Sheps mound a few metres back from the runway as I work nearby and saw a QF 787 taxiing for takeoff. Took a pic and checked the rego out of curiosity and it departed SYD with destination also SYD so can only assume it’s for training? Either way watching it go past certainly got me excited over the idea that we can be travelling internationally again soon. If only it weren’t so cold at the places I want to visit right now..

Agree. However, I do believe recognising Sinovac is due to political reasons. After all, Dom wants to see as many international students back to NSW as quickly as possible. A lot of these students would have had Sinovac as vaccine.

Had a 787 over our place yesterday, and flight radar had it SYD/N/A, with a flight number 6xx_. So looks like QF really are getting ready to open up 1/11.

That only applies if it hits the 80% double vaccination mark. It could be earlier or later.

So 80% double vaxxed can home quarantine. And if you fly into another city before 80% then must hotel quarantine until you have been in Australia 14 days.
