What does it make me then if the highlight of my flight is pushing infront of all the pax (who have been standing at the boarding gate for an hour before the flight) at OOL when they call for boarding for Golds/PE/Other status pax.

DYKWIA much?

Did I get that Gen Y reference right?

It's a service offered to us, so use it. But let's not get carried away thinking it means we are better than anyone else. (Liam!)

The highlight of your flight? lol waaaaaaaaaaaaankkkkkkkkkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

All this talk of Priority boarding... in principle it's great, and I applaud VA for doing it.

HOWEVER... has anyone ever used it, has any one ever SEEN any one using it?

Used Priority Boarding Saturday June 11 from gate 7 at MEL. I walked straight to the front of the priority lane (after walking straight through premium screening), my BP was scanned immediately and straight onto the aircraft I went. Very civilised.

Had a great flight on a premium economy reward. Very attentive crew. CSM had memorised the premium passengers' names and seats before boarding. He was attending to an elderly passenger further down the aircraft when I boarded and greeted me by name when he came forward. No glance at a cheat sheet, just a second for recall.

Richard.

SYD-CBR this evening and the boarding call was for people who needed assistance including those with children, Platinum/Gold FF members and OneWorld equivalents as well as business class pax.

Well done QF. Should be more of it.

You don't realize how bad the pax are at OOL. Ask any flight attendant, they will tell you that passengers on the OOL-SYD/MEL sector the ones most lacking airline etiquette. I hate flying OOL-SYD for this very reason.

My last OOL flight a little over a week ago:

People going camping in Sydney for a week, but too cheap to check pay to check in luggage. Meaning I'm stuck behind them at security, while security find the cutlery set in their bag and explain it can't be taken through. Of course, the pax decides he is correct and tries to tell security off. Meanwhile I'm stuck behind, watching this whole argument.

No Lounge? Well inconvenient, but it means I just have to pay for my coffee and wait it out watching aircraft at the boarding gate.

Plane arrives at gate (At least 30mins prior to our departure)... Pax start to line up with half their lives belongings before the incoming flight has unloaded.

By the time the pre-boarding announcement is made, half the flight is already standing in the queue wanting to be on the aircraft as soon as possible. At least 10-20 people will have their Flight Itinerary in their hands assuming that’s all they need to get onboard the plane. No idea what boarding passes are for.

Boarding for gold’s is called. I casually stroll up to the front and give her my boarding pass, I usually do have to push somebody out of the way. The gate agent always says fairly loudly to me "Priority Boarding as a Gold Member Sir? Yes. Welcome. Have a nice flight"

I hear the hissing as I walk off.

Sadly, OOL passengers mostly haven't flown before, or just lac a general sense of etiquette. The way I see it, being a Gold member means you travel enough to know the etiquette of being on an aircraft, and as such, you are (as well for your loyalty of traveling with the airline frequently) given the ability to bypass most of the passengers.

Do I think I'm better than anyone else on the aircraft? No.

Do I think I'm better behaved than some others? Yes.

Yup. However it's not really a Gen Y thing.

Oops, turned that into a rant. Sorry!
Rant over.

The signage was there, but the lane was closed when I had a chance to try it out. So it goes untried for me.

The other thing to keep in mind is that usually the Silver/Gold/Platinum pax are frequent flyers.

They usually know the size and weight allowances, what can go on board and what can't, have the boarding passes out prior to the gate, get into the plane and sit in the correct seat without having to unpack and re-pack their bag 3 times halfway down the aisle.

It does make boarding quicker at times.

Exactley.

Having two lanes, one for fast, one for slow, works. It is the most efficent way to board an aircraft.

I'm with you on this.

Being gold on QF is worth the few extra dollars over DJ.

I could never be gold on DJ because of their pathetic international route network and non-membership of any global alliance.

Maybe one day they will grow up, but I doubt it because of Mr Branson.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending upon your personal preferences a lot of people no longer agree with you on that :!:

The international network that Virgin have tied up is very comprehensive and is constantly being improved, as distinct from being enhanced. ;)

Not that they're always OOL based... I remember eating at Broadbeach once overhearing a Sydney girl a few years younger than me. Appeared a bit northern suburbs from the distance until I heard her whining on the phone to a friend. Apparently Virgin wouldn't change her OOL-SYD flight for free because they've got on record that her both her grandmothers had already died during previous flight changes

I wouldn't be so harsh about the DJ network but I do agree for *my* needs it is also lacking compared to OneWorld. Getting better of course but that's part of the evaluation if you decide to stick predominantly with a single carrier/alliance.

Maybe the poor girl was from a broken home and it was one of her step-step-on the second-side-of-the-family's-grandmothers ....:o

In all fairness Clifford, partnerships with Etihad, ANZ, Singapore, Delta, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America would be the envy of many airlines - and considering their young age they are doing brilliantly. Not saying QF is not good, but VA has come a long way - and as they are changing the landscape, we the FFs need to look at them in a different way (as in not from up above from our high horses).

Of course - it is completely your choice to fly with whom you believe offer you the best service - though their international relationships are hardly pathetic (perhaps they once were.. well non-existent).

I know many think this a pipe-dream: but I truly believe that *A is inevitable, and I still have my money on this being in the foreseeable future...

My 2c :) No intention to ruffle anyone's feathers...

Well, maybe OOL attracts those sort of people. Don't you hate it when your grandmother dies, twice.

Don't get me wrong, its a nice city...... To look at, living here, isn't as nice. Its a tourist city.

:lol::lol: quote of the day :lol::lol:

hate to say it guys - but those people are everywhere...

So yes, this is a blessing of priority boarding - also you get to sit in your seat (hopefully at the pointy end) and look them up and down as they walk down the aisle saying "23? that's at the end of the plane. wonder how much these people paid to sit here"

I'm know I am just being stupid, but I hate being in business and people looking at me, especially old people/kids - i want to give them my seat i feel so guilty lol *don't flame me i know i'm just being weird*

Generally look at you and go "Ughhhh One Day". It doesn't want me to give up my seat. Just smile back at them.

I guess I have no soul.

Now you've hit the nail on the head!

Like it or not, Gold Coast has always been a tourist/holiday town and people on holidays let their hair (read etiquette) down.

Last year I flew the OOL-SYD-OOL every week for a few months and the flight times were the key, worst one was Friday evening......Sydneys uncouth heathens taking a weekend jaunt to the Gold Coast and their attitude on the flights were disgraceful. I did note often all male FAs, so perhaps that is intentional on those flights (maybe FA could be retermed FB......flight bouncer).

On a positive note, now DJ prices are somewhat higher than either Jetstar or Tiger, perhaps Sydneys great unwashed will fly with them and leave our planes clean and fresh!

Bring on the OOL lounge with all haste!

Believe it or not, the reflection of myself in the windows is actually one of the BETTER pictures of me
