Good to see the priority screening lane was active in Brisbane on a Saturday afternoon! I used to hate DJ as a business traveler with no status, with the changes they have made its proving to be a very different story now!

Slightly O/T (it does contain the word Priority).

Have any Virgin flyers experienced the baggage handling process? It's one of the other chief complaints about the competition that always seems to come up - reading other threads, related to either the speed with which the baggage starts coming out or the 'order'.

Is there such a system for J, PE and status membership with Virgin? Does it work?

Markis10,Did you notice if the priority lanes were activated in MEL over your journeys?

Pleased to say priority boarding is in full swing at MEL and at SYD over this weekend/today.

I am now just walking straight down the lane, the staff turn and scan, not missing a beat. Yet the other pax glare at you - but meh, I still don't have to queue and do the shuffle up the queue and then wait on the aerobridge. Makes a nice change. Both bags (carry on and laptop) straight above me :)

Nice.

Unfortunately Gates11 and up have not got Priority boarding in MEL at this stage. It is amazing how quickly you get used to having priority ...missed it as we lined up at Gate 11 yesterday!I have to say that Priority Lanes are one of my favorite enhancements.

I used priority boarding at Sydney airport yesterday. Casualy strolled down from the lounge after my flight was called, only to find a like of about 100m of people waiting to get on... One of the biggest I've ever seen.

But never fear! Simply walked down the special purple boarding lane, gate agent stopped serving others, asked (Rather loudly) "Are you Gold Sir?" I said I was, she took my boarding pass and said "Thanks Liam, nice to see you again, Enjoy your flight"

Very nice, very professional, very Virgin.

As it should be. ;)

What if you said no, scanned your ticket yourself and kept walking? lol

Why don't they replace the staff member at the gate with a self serve kiosk, or for Frequent Flyers, simply tap your card against a pole.

We can call it a next generation passenger experience.

Because then every man and his dog would attempt to use the PBL, creating a Q of hundreds of confused pax all wondering why they can't board the flight despite a sign clearly stating it's for PE and Gold only...because who on the planet doesn't believe they deserve priority?

Sorry. It was a joke. Just like Qantas completely automated the check in system and called it 'THe next generation of customer service"....

I highly doubt any airline would automate the boarding system.

Careful there Liam you might wind up getting a job at QF with that attitude!

Never say never. I wouldn't mind it if they installed city rail style gates, the skinny ones only, to prevent oversized luggage getting onboard. They could maybe accompany that with a wistful poster saying......we want to be known as Australia's world class airline.

Wouldn't it really screw with Qantas's whole pitch if Virgin started an ad campaign "Virgin, Australia's premium airline"?

I suggest DJ/VA need to provide at booking seat selection before doing that. I mean waiting until 24 hours before departure to select your seats? Just a bit ancient. Both JQ and TT do it in line and with QF just after you have paid for the ticket.

So come on DJ/VA, get with the program.

I'm sure once they upgrade their IT system, they'll offer this.

While there was no priority lane as suchh, I had a DJ flight from Port Macquarie to Sydney last week booked in Premium Economy. It was a fairly empty flight (E170, maybe 40 pax) and the chatty check-in lady mentioned that I was the only Y+ pax and the only DJ Gold on the flight.

Come boarding time, everyone is sitting in the rather small gate area and the same lady calls for boarding "Any Premium economy or Gold FF's" while staring directly at me! I felt like quite the tool walking up to the gate alone, but appreciated the gesture!
