Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

Qantas have a randomly selected panel of frequent flyers who are given the survey each time they fly (although they never send it to us more than once every ten days or two weeks or something like that).

I have had it a couple of times.

I have never had it - almost 70 QF flights in my last QF year.

I am on the QF advisory panel so I occasionally log in to fill in the survey you can do for any flight.

I get this survey. It generally has 3 categories - airport service, lounge service and inflight service - and it is linked to the experience on a particular flight that the survey nominates (but I often digress in my comments to talk about other flights). It is not every sector that I get the survey but it is generally every 4 sectors or so.

The best thing about the survey is there is a box to click at the end if you want someone to ring you back to discuss your feedback. If I click "yes", someone always does ring me back within a few days, and it is not someone from generic Customer Care, it is the actual manager who is responsible for the area of the feedback that I want a response to. So I can get explanations from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Just one observation - should this thread be retitled Premium Boarding as QF don't refer to Priority Boarding?

Yeah, they do. The oft cited comparison page that started this whole thread still refers to it as Priority Boarding.

The problem is not that QF doesn't know how but that they can't be bordered. The company doesn't police that so staff becomes variable in compliance.

This problem is not limited to boarding but inflight services etc.

With regard to the company not 'policing' inflight service, selected pax are sent emails immediately after a flight & asked to rate performance of crew & other aspects of the flight on a scale of 1-10.

This feedback is passed on to the cabin crew & I thinks it's fair to say that any element of the service not up to par would be discussed with that crew member by management.

Obviously not or this thread would not be 224 pages long.

If you read my post again you will see that I was referring to management giving staff feedback re their inflight service to pax.

A CSM friend was explaining to me how it worked & how management had contacted her regarding (positive) feedback she had received from a customer who had completed a survey.

Well, I look forward to seeing priority boarding in action in a little over 9.5 hours - have a 2 sector JASA tomorrow...PER/ADL in the morning and ADL/BNE at night. Will try and remember to give photos and be there at the Gate for the boarding calls.

Hard to tell, but the two lines are the same size. Gangway door opened and even before boarding call, two lines developed. Boarding call took a minute, by which stage any hope of getting it right was lost. I'm waiting. Now it has developed to 5 in the P Line, so time to board.

Probably was close - given the Plats in PER.

After a 45 min delay due to late inbound of both operating aircraft and separate crew (new ETD 8.40pm), by the time we had been called from the QC (at Boarding), Gate 24 boarding was underway thus no delays. The sign and lines were up, but of little use. No need to photograph.

Can't call it either way, however I was pleased to see the sign and lines were set up.

Thank God the meal was nice (I chose the pork):

and the CSM plied me with red wine (I was the only one drinking it) and insisted I take the rest of the bottle home :D

Well another breeze for PB in MEL today. Full general lane and empty PB lane. Strolled straight up.

I will say though QF need to make clearer and bigger signs.

Also security PB lane was heavily policed this morning, moving people back into the normal lanes.

Priority security slower than regular today. Hard to tell if PB was working as there were a lot of WP in the queue.

Just punted two j class pax to the back of the premium boarding lane - they were in J and assumed it was a regular lane so were going to cut in. MEL signage fails again...

MEL this morning, worse than useless, down at gate 24 for the flight to SYD, was a fairly full flight and just before calling for pax to board the signage was put out but not policed or even very clear which was the priority line. Given there were people everywhere and no one bothering to enforce the announced boarding protocol of rows it would've been better to have not bothered rather than do it poorly.

And then there was the bloke who stopped to dump his stuff in the overhead locker at row 3 and staying so long the seat incumbent who arrived behind him asked if he was also sitting there. He wasn't, he was in economy but needed the overhead locker room for his three bags and suit jacket.

QF408 MEL-SYD today (gate 21).

Despite signs being placed correctly there were two massive queues when I got there - and I left the lounge before the call.

QF694 ADL-MEL on Sunday worked well - weekend passengers seem to be able to read better or something.

QF697 MEL-ADL on Friday night was nothing short of a disgrace.

I've had about 7 other QF domestic flights this year, so that's a 10% successful strike rate for PB. Pretty poor.

QF 739 B737 01DEC12 SYDNEY/ADELAIDE --- worked well

QF 750 B737 01DEC12 ADELAIDE/SYDNEY --- worked well

QF 439 B767 03DEC12 SYDNEY/MELBOURNE --- worked well

QF 428 B767 04DEC12 MELBOURNE/SYDNEY --- complete fail from gate 12.
No PB signs up. Mass crowd formed as flight was delayed as it was. Boarding called and PB pax told to board using PB lane ... yet there was no PB lane at all. Was a scrum.
I get to my section of the Y cabin only to find everything full around me with my 1 rolla. Oh well first world problems.
