Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

QF652 Wed red eye PER-BNE, priority lane being manned and all BP's viewed prior to FA scanning...comment to me by the floating FA "keeping the queue correct for you"

Reminded me of American Airlines, where if u don't belong, they tell u nicely to move on.

Not too difficult to do and once people see other people being ushered out of the wrong line, they too get the message:cool:

PB FAIL in MEL, SYD and MEL over the past few weeks

People just using both queues

I now just stay in the lounge for an extra 5-10 mins after the first call and then head over and generally I walk straight on the plane

I tried to do that a few times, the downside is the difficulty to find a place to store your luggage on full flights, but generally it's a good idea to avoid any queues when boarding.

And of course crystal-clear bold AA signage that is always properly placed helps immensely. I still maintain that the dismal signage is fundamentally the biggest QF fail-point because it neither clearly directs the pax nor helps the staff reinforce the message owing to it being so very poorly projected in the first place .

Yep the signage is a waste of time and the red carpet lane leading to the gate should be the PB queue as it stands out and most people associate red carpet with VIPs/WPs :P

This is such a simple thing to fix Qantas

1. Clear annoucments that there are 2 separate lines for boarding
2. Use the red carpet lane for PB
3. Better sign making it clear
4. Turn away people who can't listen/read at the front to the correct queue

Not sure why its' so hard to fix!

A few memos/emails/whatever process QF use to communicate with staff

Get Management to enforce it

QF 425 from SYD (to MEL) was a fail this morning. As the flight was running late, there was no enforcement of the PB queues which allowed me (as a SG) to join the slightly shorter PB queue. I know its bad of me and I promise I wouldn't do this again.

QF 865 from OOL (to SYD) was a success (and I didn't join the PB queue this time). I thought that PB was not offered at OOL but its good to see it working at a smaller airport.

Fail. QF 739. SYD to ADL gate 18. Everyone boarding down priority lane. I took a photograph but too many faces in it for me to feel comfortable posting.

Ricky,

Would you be comfortable doing it again and once your pass is scanned ask why you weren't rejected from priority? ;)

What is confusing is the signs say Platinum & Business, the inflight magazine says Golds (does not differentiate domestic or international travel) and Up and in BNE last week they announced Golds and Up for priority boarding.

As I've noted upthread more than once, I always use the priority lane (as recently as four days ago) but with my AA Sapphire status printed on the boarding pass. On not one occasion out of what must be 30 boardings have I been pulled up. This to me means that while it's certainly an improvement to have QF put up signs and make announcements, the benefit can still clearly be easily eroded by people who aren't entitled to it nonetheless availing themselvevs of it with near-zero chance of any repurcussions.

It has often crossed my mind to ask the gate agent why I wasn't sent away. Maybe I need to make a point of actually doing it sometime.

Seems to yet again be poor training on the part of Qantas and lack of monitoring of implementation - e.g. the phone up for Jasa/Fasa saga where half the people answering the phone had no idea of what was going on. When your customers are doing the monitoring and training for you it is pretty shoddy....

Only on this site , the rest are sheep

Worked a treat SYD gate 6 for noon flight.

Call to tell every one it was a full flight and boarding would be by row numbers. This was followed immediately by a call for business PAX, WP & Emerald were welcome to commence boarding or at their leisure.

Interestingly PB seems to be starting to sink in as no one queued at all until boarding was called.

Reminded me of what happens in the USA with AA flights.

A reverse PB - on 763 this morning one of the FAs stood at the back if J to block Y pax from disembarking before J.

This is the first time I recall seeing this.

It used to be standard procedure some years back like Hvr mentioned. On a 737 service, an FA would also usually stand in the aisle at the back of the J cabin.

Haven't seen it for a while now though.

Not so fast. QF545 from BNE yesterday was a total scrum down. Some pax even cut into the PB line at the scanner and the FAs did nothing to control it.
