Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

I just wonder if airlines would sell priority boarding, in cash (say with bundling) or by miles/points, to help themselves financially.
dont tempt the coughs. They already charge their very loyal Platinums for exit row seats, so would have no compunction about this.

Maybe I've just not noticed it before... but I'm sure that QF in ADE used to have the RED/BLACK boarding signs denoting GENERAL and PRIORITY lanes. This week I see they have changed to a single RED sign for PRIORITY. When the rest of the country (at least BNE, MEL, PER) were all using the RED/BLACK sign combo last week. Has QF changed the "colour language" of the PB signs... it was hard enough to get PB working on a good day with the RED/BLACK signs.

Also notice it shows only WP and OWE. Where as the black signs used elsewhere now have GOLD added for PB access ?

Someone might correct me, but I'm pretty sure that the black/red ones are the current signage and the red priority sign is an old one.

Why is it that when the PB queue grinds to a halt when there is a problem with a BP (usually the e-sort) that the person manning the scanner on the std side does not ask the premium queue pax to board via that side and make the std queue wait (ie the std pax board 1st and the premium stand around waiting)

One of the world's true mysteries...

Of course - but the mystery is why they don't.

I thought we'd long ago decided that they don't because QF use FAs to process boarding rather than the Gate Agent and so didn't want to risk confrontation on board as a result of having sent someone to the correct queue.

17/6/15 QF605 BNE/MEL Gate 25

Worked a treat, as walking towards the Gate could see the stretched queue for Economy. Inside track to the bollards which were evenly spaced and a dedicated scanner for pax

Very good, QF WP.

But the question to QF remains: Why did it take SOOOOOOOOO long to get clear signage :rolleyes:. It was obvious from the start of this saga that the junior high school kid's work experience offerings were hopeless .

I still think "the kids" need to take a wander through the VA terminal to see how to do this properly:

1. Locate the Priority Channel AWAY from the main gate seating area...always

2. Priority Boarding means you board your elites FIRST - not at the same time as standard.

3. Politely direct the miscreants to the correct line.

Simples!!

BD

The signage was fine. It's the lack of proper segregation and application by the people scanning BPs

Not sure whether the signage is a problem. In Brisbane last week there was a huge queue in priority lane, and almost no one in normal lane. Either there is a huge number of gold and platinums departing from Brisbane or the signage is meaningless.

I maintain that the original, small signage was a very large part of the problem and part of that was because it left the staff to carry too much of the segregation burden too late along the zoo-like lines - with the attendant aggro from some pax.

to be honest i don't see the point in priority boarding, you all land at the same time - why spend longer in a plane than you need too! Big rush to get on the plane only to be sitting down for next 4 hours

Short answer is that I've walked down from the lounge and don't want to stand in another long queue. I'd rather get on the plane and be offered a drink while waiting for the flight to depart.
