Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

I think there's probably not enough, especially if QF decide to roll-out rear stair boarding across the network.

I really fail to see why VA can deliver PB consistently and QC cannot.

Regards,

BD

I think it is all about attitude of management to staff and management and staff to pax. If staff are not trained properly and praised for good work/ given a 'please explain' when not doing things properly they will not bother. Also, if staff feel respected and supported by management then they are more likely to do a good job (& know that management will back them if a pax complains about being bumped out of the PB queue because not entitled to be there).

QF promote PB for J & WP and should have a consistent standard of service, regardless of airport, aircraft day of week or timing of flight. Just one more example of QF's LCC service model of not caring about pax

I do in respect of the way management keep cutting the QF FF programme and all the other enhancements to the product. I am not saying QF is a LCC just the senior management's attitiude is that of a LCC

I have been at the airport when I have heard VA-esque announcements made by QF. Its just not consistently done all the time

I've heard the same a couple of times. People still rushed the gate and the staff started scanning them. Undermining the announcement by not making people wait.

I had an interesting experience with VA this morning where they failed to do the announcements correctly,, by skipping straight to boarding has now commenced and not doing the priority call. The gate was rushed, including having the general boarding queue move to the priority line when it was boarded first.

A few moments after this pic was taken a QF staff member came to clear out everyone that didn't belong, only 4 pax stayed.

And looking at that sign I can see why
From the photographed angle the sign is Qantas Red and has the word Boarding at the top - not Priority.
Also suspect that most gate seats are on that side....

Virgin's new gates at Sydney do it right, the gate seats are essentially a pen directing pax to the regular lane with the priority lane only accessible from the outside

The VA set up is good. They have the different coloured carpet in the PB lane too.

QF shines...then fades

Not a biggie, but just when you think QF is getting it right regarding a couple of popular dissatisfactions here on AFF the following example provides starkly contrasting bookends to the day.

At MEL for QF612 to BNE on Saturday morning. Security screening lines are very long (not as long as they can get, but long nevertheless). The 'priority' screening line for QF business and plat and gold is being policed. Hooray and through quite quickly. Boarding announced in lounge, wandered to gate and there is a long line for 'regular' boarding and absolutely no-one in the Premium Boarding line. And one agent for each line so I just wandered down and passed through. Happy Days!

That same night however, went to gate at BNE (for the 637 to MEL) after boarding announcement in lounge, and the Premium boarding line was twice as long as the regular line. Joined the shorter line and it did not take long. The layout of the gate lounge obviously contributed to this, but clearly the people doing the boarding could not have given a stuff (the usual signs were in place, but not really visible from where people were sitting and waiting for boarding). I did not say anything as it was not a very long wait for me.

Re: QF shines...then fades

Was the PB line long because there were General pax in it?

Or was it long because they failed to give Priority to the PB line and process the General line ahead of it?

QF shines...then fades

I am very confident it was the former. Naturally I did not inspect peoples' BPs but a 'priority' line at least twice as long as the other is a good indication, along with the positioning of the readable part of the 'priority' signage relative to where the seats at the gate were. There were two people boarding pax, one for each line.

Re: QF shines...then fades

Same as Adelaide. People approach the gate from the side but the signs are placed in front, so they don't see them and the FAs doping boarding don't do anything to make it better/easier.

Snip

So there were two F/A's doing boarding ex MEL on QF612 (or possibly one F/A & one ground staff assisting) but QF637 only one F/A & let me guess they were standing on the same side as the computer (left hand side) which hapoens to be the 'PB' lane.

Even if the punters can read the general boarding sign directing them to use the right hand lane they won't line up in a lane with no staff member at the front if it, so logic prevails & they line up in the only lane (the left hand PB lane) where there's an F/A as logic dictates.

I think there were two for 637 as well as 612. But the rest as you say.

Not even a sign for priority boarding for QF751 SYD - ADL this lunchtime and only 1 FA manning gate 12. A few looks in our direction as we made our way to the front. Is that why all ADL flights are going from gate 12 today - no priority?! Lol!
