Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

I think they simply applied an "& Gold" sticker to the existing signs.

No, the old signs were red with eligibility written in white. The new PB signs are black and the regular line signs are red.

Much better and less excuse to make a mistake.

Hmmm I could've sworn it was a sticker on the sign at my boarding gate in MEL yesterday; the letters looked slightly raised compared to the rest of the text.

The banners have always been two colours, black and red for the 2 lanes.

The little sign on top of the post was/is red.

19/12 QF601 BNE/MEL Gate 20 now

New signage works a treat.

Was the only pax in the line and the single FA doing the scanning ushered me forward and the pax in the normal line waited.

It is a sticker but it's an exact match with the existing font so very difficult to tell.

I went up to one of the signs in BNE & ran my hand over it & you can feel the outline of the sticker.

19/12 QF 620 MEL now

Actually got to the Gate early, before boarding commenced.

They had commenced an early board for a wheelchair bound pax, before any boarding calls.

I'm first in line at the Business bollard. Priority Boarding shouldn't be an issue ;)

The little triangular bollard design helps separate the pax too I've noticed.

Friday morning (0600) MEL-SYD normal line very long, PB line virtually empty, walked up and straight through. Saturday morning CBR-MEL (0640) PB called but didn't see signs at gate 13. However went to the right hand lane and again went straight through.

Saw the PB signs at other QF gates at CBR. Would love to see it in operation on a weekday morning with the PB lines longer than the regular lines.

Haven't seen any new signage at PER as yet, still the old signs, i hope they keep them that way!

YES...YES...YES!!!

358 Pages in and we're starting to perfect this PB larky!!

Tonight's 694...just the one FA at the commencement of boarding.

Calls forward the PB line leaving the GB line waiting for the arrival of the 2nd FA.

A small step, but I *will* file a "well-done"...far too often we see the first FA wait for the 2nd to be in place before they "have the nerve" to start the boarding process. Maybe QF might start to get the message...

Regards,

BD

We have never had trouble boarding signs or not. The missus has a Gough Whitlam (bless his soul) attitude and marches past the line up to the FA hands our business boarding pass/QF card and gives the Julie Bishop death stare. Works every time.

Complete snafu today on QF513. Hold ups with pax in wrong lane, with incomplete boarding info. Plenty of Asian tourists doing anything they wanted. But we eventually made it.

CBR morning flight to MEL, one FA and therefore single very long line. Watched a fellow pax from the J lounge head to the front of the line and attempt to hand over boarding pass. I couldn't hear the exchange but the WP/J pax turned, shaking his head, and dawdled to the end of the GB line.

Fairly comprehensive PB fail there.

Travelled on QF497 from SYD to MEL on Friday and PB worked a treat. There was about 70-80 people in the general boarding line and no one in the PB line. Love that feeling when I walked past all the people n the general boarding line.

Also I was mistakenly directed to board the aircraft via the front (J class) airbridge.

Interesting chat in the queue this morning for qf730. The guy who moved from the general boarding line to the end of the PB line was firmly of the opinion that one operator meant one line. He was aware of the requirement for PB when I mentioned it. It was almost a failure a when the rest if the general line followed him. But I think people went to the empty general line.

Rear stairs boarding will be an interesting development.

In December, when querying where the PB lane was, I was told by a staff member standing near the gate to walk up to the front for PB. It wasn't me in this latest event although I would be likely to do the same based on my experience.

The lack of clear signage, tensa barriers and consistent announcements means it is unlikely to ever work as expected in CBR.

Wonder what I will encounter on Friday's flight to MEL?

I came across this in Canberra this week:

Can you see the priority boarding sign? Look in between the shelving/barrier thing for an A3 sign.

This was for a 717 with two FAs scanning.

I said to the gate agent "May I ask why there's no priority boarding today?" and she said she didn't know but would get a ground staff member if I liked. "Yes, that'd be great. Thank you," I said.

The agent summoned groundstaff member Alanna who was very polite and pleasant. She said "We don't own the aiport in Canberra like we do in Sydney . . . We don't have the tensa barriers . . . We sometimes do it but it's too hard". No joke. She seemed a little surprised when I said "If your children or nieces or nephews said 'It's too hard to wipe my bottom' would you give up"? I thanked her for her time and moved on.

Interesting answer, would have thought the real answer was they don't do priority boarding on Qantaslink flights, including the 717's. Indeed it was only recently that they have done it on the 737 flights out of Canberra too.

But she does make a point that Qantas does not own the gates so a bit hard to have their own barriers and big signs that might have to get moved around. Though in reality they are the only users of the gates on that side of the security check point.
