Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

I think it is partly the issue with overhead space and also that people feel if something is offered it should be done properly. I get my knickers in a twist over priority luggage :)

Indeed - 208+ pages and going. If you can't deliver it then don't advertise it, the same goes for any business anywhere anytime. For some reason QF seem to think that they are special and can advertise a product/service that they cannot provide.

A330 boarding in SYD on Friday. Three scanners in use. One doing the priority line and two doing the other. All those in the priority line land up boarding via the A door.

So even though when I arrived from the lounge the priority queue was about half the length of the regular one it made little difference in the end.

Priority boarding should be about boarding first (after disabled, or virtue signalling about veterans). But only at the start of boarding. If Late to that boarding segment, well that’s bad luck. Get to the front of the queue by being at the gate when boarding is open

With respect, I disagree. Priority boarding should be at your leisure at all stages of boarding. You’ve either paid for it or earned it.

Not much you can do once a single aerobridge is full of PAX trying to board. Push past them?

I agree.

A far smaller number of entitled DYKWIA pax on VA (who also believe that the J overheads are for Y cabin baggage)....

Sure there are. No way are the majority of Y passengers on any airline people who just booked the cheapest flight of the day. They are actually distinct types of people with distinct mannerisms, and all of the good ones have congregated at your preferred airline.

It's almost like a religion.

Priority boarding = join the airbridge queue earlier.

Which still means you get to your seat and get settled quicker.

Agreed, also. From my perspective, the appropriate approach is to offer priority boarding before general boarding starts. Once general boarding commences, the priority lane should still be open and accessible to eligible passengers. If that lane is empty then the agent processing it takes a passenger from the non-priority line, one at a time, thus still preserving priority for eligible passengers.

While saying “priority” “priority” “coming through”

Maybe you also pick up a big priority stick when boarding pass scanned that you can use to prod the non priority plebs out of the way on the air bridge which you then hand back at the plane.

We had exactly that happen on a Qatar flight. They’d called all the J pax to board but when we got there we were held back. From the rear came a pushy couple from the LOTFAP at the top of their voices calling out - we are Business, let us through. At which we mix of people just turned around and shrugged. Someone showed him their BP. He just kind of waited, like the rest of us.

Should have said. “This is the economy line. The Business line is upstairs - you gotta go back cos you took the wrong turn”

Has hell frozen over - check BOM - my flight back to MEL tonight boarded from the premium line first. That is, only from the premium line. A glitch or a sign of things to come?

Premium line in force the other day. Except they were also weighing cases. In which time the premium line was held back waiting for the person to be assisted by the premium line crew member while the other boarding queue continued to be processed.

Yes you get the premium line - the priority boarding line. Who says you will get on the plane any quicker?:D
