Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

Hmmm. Good point. I'm clearly slipping!

Of course, the QF website only lists priority boarding for Platinums on a domestic basis. The oneworld website lists "board at convenience" as a benefit for oneworld Sapphire and Emerald, which can righly be interrupted very differently from priority boarding.

Danger, QF implements the OW Boarding at Convenience during international boarding via a dedicated lane to the BP scanner. Why should it be any different for domestic boarding? Until we kicked up a stink, QF did not implement domestic PB or Boarding at Convenience. They just totally ignored their OW obligations and expected their J, WP, SG, OWE and OWS pax to turn up to the gate before the first boarding announcement despite the boarding call being delayed in the lounge. Go figure?

Welcome to page 101 of a lot of WPs and SGs upset with QF.

I've said it a couple of times in this thread but, to me, 'priority boarding' and 'board at convenience' are not the same.

In your answer to your question as to why it should be different for domestic boarding, my post (1000 of this thread - yah) related to pull-up banners in use that state only oneworld Emeralds receive priority boarding which, to me, is in line with the QF website. I was not passing comment on the absence or otherwise of 'board at convenience' for oneworld Sapphires. In fact, the QF website lists 'priority boarding' internationally as a benefit for Golds, just not domestically.

"Boarding at your convenience" means that you should be able to board the plane when it suits you. It doesn't mean standing at the back of a queue of 100 people.

It also doesnt mean jumping all queues. What if it suits me to board before the first boarding call is made -your interpretation of BayC means whenever you want and in front of whoever you want.

Also QF can exempt people from whatever benefits they want as other carriers have done in the past (no DOM/Euro priority boarding BayC on BA in the past and no lounge access for AA elites in the past).

Here is the BA definition for their Silver (QF Gold / OW Sapphire) and above:
Executive Club - Silver membership - British Airways

Enjoy worldwide priority check in and boarding.

As well as having priority over Blue members on reservation wait lists and airport standby lists, you can avoid the queues at check in by using Club World, Club Europe or the equivalent oneworld® Business Class desks, no matter what class of ticket you have.

At departure you can board at your convenience regardless of the class you are travelling in that day. {bolding added..gw}

BA offers OWSs and above "Boarding at your convenience" via a dedicated Priority Boarding lane to the BP scanner.

Boarding at Convenience is the right / benefit that is bestowed.
A Priority Boarding lane to the BP scanner is how it is physically implemented.

So it appears that people have a different view of what Boarding at Convenience actually means.

I don't blame QF for that one - that's OW's fault for coming up with a stupid name. That also is a totally separate issue from whether QF provide it or not. Nobody can say that they don't provide it when we can't even work out what it means.

Priority Boarding however is pretty clear (look at AA, DJ, and what QF do internationally - all called priority boarding and all pretty much the same - dedicated lane). Priority Boarding is what I want to see, and enough with this stupid OW terminology and debate over definitions!

I agree with this - but if people keep raising priority boarding as a OW benefit and saying that QF SG should get - they are wrong and I will point it out to them.

After seeing a client near BNE airport early this afternoon, I dropped in to get my temp VA card. As I walked past the QF Gates I thought of this thread.

I wonder if QF are going to just use the information gathered from the SYD trial to bring in the national policy, or are they going to roll out to other airports to increase the sample size? Would they get different results?

Which airports would they use - BNE or MEL, or smaller ones? BNE Is the second biggest for movements (including QantasLink), so it would make sense from a sample size to have more pax using it to gather relevant data faster.

Then, which Gates would they use - which Gates ate used more, or are better equipped to have the two lanes. The gates out on the pod (17 to 21) have more available space, but further away; whilst Gates 22 to 24 are on the main concourse - do they give any benefits? Would Gate 22, the closest to the QC, be the best option?

Anyway, enough of my musings...

Woo hoo, I must have been reading their minds ;) - or they mine  (or my posts)....:p

munitalP, nice pick up yesterday and post to FB and AFF.

I wonder if this move to another airport means the trial is continuing and if so, for how long (and will they use MEL).

I'd have to say, was very impressed by CBR Terminal the other day, first time there in about a year. They could easily transfer the trial there, but then the lines would be in reverse :o. I boarded my CBR/BNE flight at my convenience - after almost everybody else. The line was up to the QC/J door (we were at the first Gate on the right), so it was at least 50 to 75 metres long.

Was that another article I missed? I only read the one about his cut in base pay, increase in take home due to the his long service leave and increased reliance on performance related pay - you must have read another one...

The following is from a news article on the Commsec site re QAN.

Simon - I have to disagree with you here and I think you miss the point of the post above.

"Priority Boarding" is exactly how the rest of the world (including i dare say the majority around here) interpret what is meant by the OW rules.

Yes - you can argue the semantics of what it "says" on the OW site - but the rest of the world has interpreted it as being "Priority Boarding" - quite simple as that IMHO.

Boarding at Convenience is the benefit. Note here there is no mention of standing at the end of the queue or being at the gate early as to how this benefit is physically delivered. It is very clear, as a OWE or OWS you can walk to the gate and board the aircraft at your convenience and not according to any boarding call over the PA.

A physical Priority Boarding lane to the BP scanner is how that benefit is enacted by all OW airlines except QF domestically. I find it amazing that QF know to enact their PHYSICAL obligations internationally yet fail to enact their PHYSICAL obligations domestically.

Really - given that BA (for domestic) and AA (new signs were introduced only in the past few years I think) only introduced this relatively recently - it hasn't been a default position in all OW airlines other than QF.

CX implement it as all flights are international so there is no comparison there.

AY didn't have it ex-HEL when I flew through there.

RJ didn't have it at AMM for an INTERNATIONAL flight.

I have only flown int'l on JL so I can't compare the domestic experience for JL.

Yesteday on a 767 SYD-PER, the initial boarding call was for those requiring assistance as well s Platinum, Gold, OWE, OWS and Business. So, again, they've thrown Gold into the mix and, again, it was a case of lip service as there were no checkling of boarding passes to determine who was actually 'jumping the queue'.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz this thread is getting boring and very repetative.

You may find the option to unsubscribe from this thread will help with what you perceive to be 'repetitive'.
