Priority Pass SYD ''Lounges"

I had hit and miss on the boarding pass in Sydney airport last month.

Some didnt check BP at all, some checked BP and I gave them an arrival into Sydney BP (on an incoming domestic flight) which was accepted.

On PP website boarding pass requirement is only mentioned at Mach 2 and Chicken Confidential.

Would be interesting to see once the digital boarding starts to happening at Sydney Airport.

Had an interesting experience at Sydney with PP last night

1. Went to Mach2, 2pax flying (each with PP + guesting ability) and 2pax just dropping off and we had a meal. Mach2 said all guests have to have a boarding pass to redeem PP, so we only got $72 credit (and not the $144 we initially expected). Both BPs stamped with a Mach2 stamp

2. Then we went to CC -- told the same, the 2 BPs stamped with a different stamp (a chicken stamp for CC)

3. Last stop was Peroni Bar -- came up to the server and said I'm planning to use my PP and showed her my BP, and got a lot of attitude. Gist of it is that I couldn't use it as they said you can only use 1 PP lounge per BP. (I didn't know that and have been to multiple PP locations in Sydney a few times...) If you want more detail of what happened:

- Got asked "How come you have two stamps? Who let you have two stamps? Did you visit two Priority Pass locations before us? You are not allowed to visit more than 1 location. I need to show my manager this" (see below..) -- This was all in front of my guest + other patrons, humiliating to say the least....
- She then proceeds to take her personal iPhone and took a photo of my boarding pass (which has my details + barcode), to which she murmured to another server at the restaurant "I need to show this to <manager's name>". I took immediate issue with this as this was taken without my consent, and it was not explained to me what the purpose was.
- She then said I can't use it here as you can only use 1 PP lounge per BP. I asked for her to produce the policy -- she couldn't and just said "That is the policy. We have been told that and you can only use it once per travel. It has been the policy for months". I asked for a written policy, she couldn't produce and made a few phone calls and said their manager will come down.
- At that point I needed to go and board my flight, so I never spoke to the manager. Got the name of the manager though -- not sure what to do at this point.

Just a heads up for those going to PP in Sydney anytime soon....

Can't have been policy for that long as I didn't have that problem in July. You could contact PP directly and see what they say.

I wonder how they stamp electronic boarding passes? If you really wanted to around this, just go back and get another boarding pass re-issued after each one is stamped.

I would be getting the server name and putting a letter to the manager..... Terrible service even if policy...... Taking photo is a disgrace from a server!

@madrooster told me that all PP restaurants in Bne will now only give credit for a departure BP, not arrival BP, and i expect this to spread to all other airports. Clearly PP are cracking down now on their perceived widespread abuse of their program, and tbh, i don't blame them. I don't think it was their intention that you could go to 3 different PP restaurants on the same day at the same airport, and, as some were doing, claiming $36 benefit for a guest, when they were travelling solo!

Does PP allow arrivals lounge access normally? Say domestic in the US for example.

Had to happen sooner or later. I have to admit that I've never had the blox to walk into to back to back PP cafes but nevertheless, I'm disappointed for those who were game enough to milk the system

Last time at BKK with the intention to check out all the Miracle Lounge i have been to all 5-6 Lounge in concourse ABCDEF during a very long transit . PP clearly didnt put in any restriction if you prefer to visit multiple lounge in the same airport same date of departure . The same should be apply with restaurant .

If they selling a membership clearly saying offer unlimited use it should be unlimited

I suspect PP doesn’t pay the restaurant the full $36. Probably 25% less or something like Uber, Deliveroo, Hotels.com etc.

The restaurants probably made this rule up to prevent people only using their $36 - the system is clearly designed to have people spend more. Bit like the Entertainment Book. It’s to get people in the door.

I went to Mach2 recently and they were very diligent about checking departing on the same day. I didn't have a boarding pass yet as check-in had not opened, so they said a ticket was okay. The guy was friendly, but couldn't understand my itinerary so once I pointed out the sector that showed I was departing that day, it was okay.

I had luggage with me, so I don't know why that wasn't a good enough clue that I was departing that day...

Went by Chicken Confidential on arrival and was told a boarding pass for a departing flight was required. Apparently this was a 'policy from the supplier'. Probably a good thing as I'd like this benefit to be around for many years to come... but would be good for priority pass to update the access requirements just to make it clear for all.

So on the one hand I can understand this, but what happens to people who arrive into SYD on a domestic flight in the evening for a morning departure the next morning on one PNR. This is considered a transit. Does this mean getting dinner at Chicken Confidential is out because you won't have your boarding pass for the next day yet? Would they even accept the next day boarding pass?

Obviously not international but what about those wanting a meal airside before checking in at the lounge?

Last time i was at Chicken Confidential i told the cashier i havent check-in yet . All she need a copy of the ticket showing that i have flight on the same date

Can you generally use a PP lounge on arrival? If so, I presume accessing the food credit should be allowed on arrival as well?

Went to Bar Roma - proffered the BP on my iPhone which threw her for a brief moment until she realised there was nothing she could "stamp".
Still, she coughed up the $72 but was less than welcoming. I had to spend the whole amount in one order - no come back for more.
And I duly did.
Two mains, glass of wine, OJ, coffee, Danish $69.50

I like your style :D

I’m about to use PP in a restaurant for first time in a couple of weeks. Do I need to announce that I will be using PP before I order, or can that be sorted when paying?

I used 2 x PP at Peroni bar on Saturday, they checked my BP to ensure details matched and had no issues using both cards, each with one guest (I had my family so 4 pax total). When swiping I was asked if I wanted it left open or closed off. This makes me think it should be mentioned when ordering, but if you will want more food/drink later they can leave it ‘open’ and add more items.

I have used it in BOS where people paid after finishing food drinks but most places in Aus require payment when ordering.
